( See if the Massey dealer has a 1528/1531 model at their store. The hydro unit is a very nice machine. It and the New Holland/Case are my personal favorites among those dealers in you area. The Massey will come in a couple K less than the New Hollands although it is not quite as powerful.

Good luck and keep us posted. )

The local Massey dealership is very high on their GC2300's, but they have a 1528 demo unit they'll be bringing in for comparison as well. Interestingly they said that the 1523s will be unavailable here for an unknown amount of time.

Rich, John and Bob: We're still bumpy enough that I only used high range on the roads anyway. Still, what I liked about the three range was that I found going from I to II to III there was a nice progression in gear ratios; on the B7510 I occassionally found low range just a bit too slow, but high range a bit too 'twitchy'.

Yes, on my ck20 it would be nice to have a mid range, but it's quite liveable. The larger CKs have 3. I'm not sure what you mean by "twitchy," mine doesn't seem to be, just is not for the work range.

John and Bob -- Yeah, I know I'm a hydro rookie, but I drive up the driveway with the car in 2nd. I can even stop on the steepest part and start up in 2nd, this with a 1.8 liter gas engine.

With the tractor, I hit the driveway with a decent amount of speed and do fine until about 150 feet up where it steepens some. Then, giving it more throttle and/or backing off on the hydro pedal is not enough to get it to pull the hill. The little 'bota would do it in 6th with a bucket load of green oak.

Looking at the hp/weight ratio might explain it. The 'bota had half the hp, but 1/3 the weight of the Case with it's counterweight. That's why I would go with the 33 instead of the 29 if I had it do over again.

I guess I mean that small pedal movements made a correspondingly-too-large change in tractor speed. Not a problem when I was just moving from one place to another or could throttle down, but when running the RFM there was a (very) few relatively flat stretches where Low seemed too slow, but running at PTO rpms, I couldn't find a happy medium in High range. I'm sure with a little experience it would be a lot better.
