Apparently snagged a hydraulic line on something tonight while mowing. It got dark on me and I started noticing a lot of dust in the headlights.. Turns out it wasn't dust. It was a fog of hydraulic fluid that appeared when I turned left.

Guess I'll see what the damage is tomorrow when I have some daylight.

While you are at it, check the one next to it for chaffing as well, those PS lines have been known to break right behind each other, best way I've seen to brevent breaking them is to have a spare...seems as soon as you have an extra one ready to go they stop breaking.

Ain't that the truth!!

I just broke my first hyd line recently myself.

Look for a Parker shop. His price on the lines and adaptors was less than the dealers.

That is what got me back in the seat again.

I second the advice to look for secondary effects. The cedar that broke my line also loosened a nut until it fell off (and scratched the paint!).

Be well,
David

Well this is going to be more involved than I imagined. Can't get a wrench on the fitting and will have to drop the steering cylinder. Problem is I can't get the linkages off the hub assembly. I took the castle nut and cotter pin off the bottom but it still won't come loose. Are they pressed in?

I was also expecting a hard line down and then a short piece of hose making the connection. It's hose all the way up to the steering wheel.

Discovered my engine cowling cracked near the right tab that the screw knob goes through to secure it to the frame too. I stop drilled it, maybe it won't run any further. The knob was a tiny bit loose when I took it out, maybe the cowling cracked from vibration. I bet those cowlings aren't cheap.

Just got back from the dealer... told him about the cracked cowling and that I read about it being a common occurrence around those mounting tabs. He said that I might be able to get it replaced under warranty. We'll see. I kinda doubt it.

Turns out that they are indeed replacing the cowling under warranty. Sweet.

Had to order the hose. The one they had marked right, was a left and it's about 6" short. I decided to stay with OEM hoses since the warranty is still active.

Here's a hint for anyone else replacing that hose. The correct wrench for the fitting is 17mm. If you use an 11/16", it's a tad larger, and has enough slop to be a little more forgiving when getting onto the fitting.
