I posted this over at the construction section too.

I had someone operating it and the drive motor speed sensor got torn off. I replaced it temporarily but the alarm will not shut off. A friend of mine said it could be a "hard fault" and would need the ecm reset by the Cat mechanic..

Does this sould right? any way of resetting the fault with out the computer? Take wire off the battery?

I am looking at this...is it what I need to reset myself?

Ted, a lot of times the computer can be reset by simply removing the negative battery cable. (do not try while running. That will fry your computer) This may or may not work in your situation depending on what kind of fault code was triggered. Worth a try though.

Had mine get ripped off a couple times. I built a gaurd to go between the frame an the final never got pulled again. My machine was still under warranty the few times it got ripped off so can't help u reset the computer but dirtroad is right u can reset it by disconnecting the negative side on the battery.
