I tried, but couldn't find anything on the internet to verify Junkman's remark about 400 gallons a day, but I certainly believe it...

Since spring came, and the tree has had the need for more water to make everything turn green, you can see such a difference. Just compare the top picture from December 24 with the bottom picture, taken this morning...

I have never been able to independently verify this information, but I had heard the figure from someone that worked at Tower Hill Botanical Gardens maintaining the grounds and had been there for many years. It might be folklore, but I believe this person to be very knowledgeable in trees and plants.

Well, it's back to the old drawing board...
We went to West Virginia over the weekend, and we came back to this last night...

It must have rained pretty hard up here over the weekend! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
Things were looking pretty good for a while. I guess I have a lot more work ahead of me...

HAPPY WEDDING ANNIVERSARY How many years has it been???? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I think that I might be inclined to put in a large plastic barrel in the ground and purchase a Honda gasoline water pump to pump the water up to the road level and into the drainage ditch. In a couple of hours, you could have it to the point where it is just slightly mushy and would dry out in a couple of days. The way it presently is, it is going to take weeks of warm weather to dry. Just for the heck of it, put a stick into the ground to mark the high water line and check each day to see how much it goes down. This might give you an idea as to how much the tree is taking up the water. When the dry season gets there, you could put in a leach line to the plastic barrel to help the drainage situation. If you are home when it is raining, you could be pumping while it is filling. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

You know if you put a little hole at one end stick a flag in it Golfgar4 will be right over to help. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Never a dull moment when you own a home. Take care and good luck.

If there was a flag anywhere's near that my golf shot would always wind up in that water. I just hate hitting over water, cause I always land in it. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
