First new gun!

Nice wheel...I used to hunt with my Ruger Super RedHawk .44 mag as my field gun for a few years, but man..those Colorado ridges kick some serious behind. You shed every ounce each day you can. I opted for my Springfield Armory XD-45. Much lighter, 13 round clips, and if I don't hit that mountain lion or bear charging me in 13 rounds, the critter deserves his meal...lol..

Oh, one more thing. New guns are like crack from what I hear. Once you start, there is no looking back.. I got my brother into guns just a few years back...man has a 30 gun safe now, and pricing a bigger one. Ya turn into a gun junkie. My latest is a Merkel 147E SxS 12g....Ohhhh man..

All flat land up here in the frozen north. Easy walking!

I have a couple of friends (twins, in fact) who own over 200 firearms between the two of them. I've seen the dark side! I'll try to refrain from "keeping up with the Joneses."

I also like revolvers... my favorite is a S&W Model 27... N frame with 3.5" barrell. A little big for concealed carry, but it shoots very well. I am looking at a used stainless Ruger 44 mag Redhawk... anyone have experience with that particular gun?

I do, I have a stainless 5 1/2 inch barreled one. It is a good shooter, good slick action. Just do the regular things, check for end shake. (unlikely on the Ruger), check timing, check forcing cone is intact, and not eroded, and cylinder to cone gap no more than .005 or so. If it all checks out, buy it. I am very satisfied with mine.

I have the stainless Super Redhawk .44 with a 7.5" barrel, very nice gun. The advantage of the super is the scope rail.

I have a friend who owns one. He lets me shoot it. I have been so impressed by shooting it that I have been keeping my eye out for one.
