Re: First Pictures: \"The Land\"

We have white, burr and some red oaks on The Land. This old, old, tree has bark that looks like a lava flow. It is HUGE and lives on the east side.

Re: First Pictures: \"The Land\"

This is a view of the swing again with the picnic table. The house will be up a slight grade to the left of the picture. The view is looking north. In the foreground we would like to have a pond, but we don't have enough water flow. The "pond guy," as we call him recommended a wetland about 2-3 feet deep. I'm worried about mosquitos...

Re: First Pictures: \"The Land\"

Hope you're not bored, yet. Almost through. This one is a hollowed-out tree that still lives. We love texture. Great for wildlife. Note the bluebird house on the left. We have four houses and absolutely love watching the bluebirds. It's like an aviary on our property and we can't wait to put up feeders. Naturally lots of deer, pheasant on the borders, many birds, etc.

Re: First Pictures: \"The Land\"

Here's the last one! This includes our "front yard" trees. Again, it looks toward where the house will be.

Well, TBNers, that's our place. I have so much enjoyed seeing images of special places literally from around the world that many of you took the time to post. Thought I'd take the time to share our dream with you.

Now, if I can just get that tractor!!!!!!

Re: First Pictures: \"The Land\"

Bill,

Great photos and an absolutely gorgeous place!!! I sure wish our place had big mature trees like that. They are really beautiful!!

Sure hope you can force all heavy equipment to stay very far from the root line on those. Would sure hate to damage any during construction /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif.

Congrats!

Kevin

Re: First Pictures: \"The Land\"

Very nice with all the mature oaks. I like the wetlands idea. You can always encourage more birds and bats to live there to reduce insects. Next year we'll put in a pond and wetlands area (about 2 acres each) in our upper field. I was just talking with a pond/swimming pool installer about areation approaches for the pond at lunch today. I look forward to your house project. Keep the pictures rolling.

My wife grew up in Louisiana and we travel there once or twice a year.

I was looking at your pics and was thinking,,, /w3tcompact/icons/hmm.gif sure does look like S.La. . I'll bet that your place makes your wife feel at home, well almost. Now if you turn the future wetland into a 'crawfish pond' ooohh yeaah. Being from N.O. La., I have to make that trip a couple times a year also. Especially during 'mud-bug' season. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif. Now I call the mountains of NC home. Right next door to the Smokey Mtn Ntl Park. Sometimes I really miss So. La. Then I remember the mosquitos, lovebugs, cottonmouths, ect. I guess that I miss the food and the fishing the most.
That is a lovely place that you have there.
For those that have no idea what 'Oak Alley' is, I attached a photo.
