First Post: Just Bought GL5740HST Open ROPS R4's

After to long breaking my arse with wood, back surgery and every other thing that goes on I shot the lock off my wallet and went for a new tractor. Criteria i had was easy, must lift 1 ton with loader and have quick attach head for FEL tools. Settled on the GL5740 after lookin Deere 4720 and comparing. I like the GL's electronic features and its comfort over the Deere. Any ideas on what caveats to look out for?? Ideas on the best most aggressive ice/snow chains? I can finally have a pick up without a snow plow!:licking:

Welcome

To get the most out of the HST+ you should take some time playing with it. Once you get use to the features you're going to find it hard not to have them. The GL tractors really don't have any faults that I know of.

There's are the chains I run on my 4240.

There are several brands that make them. The only brand selling them on-line that I've seen is Aquiline.

Like crazyal, I don't know of any faults with the GL5740, I have had mine less than a year, but have used it for a lot of things and really like it. it does take a while to fully appreciate the HST+ and must admit I was initially a bit skeptical as I really liked the HST on my GL5030.

Can't help on chains as snow is a rare thing here.

There are quite a few GL owners here who know a lot about these tractors and sure helped me configure mine; congratulations and enjoy your new tractor.

Congratulations! You have made a great choice. I know that I love mine. I can only offer to watch the torque on your lug nuts sooner than the recommended 50 hour interval. I had to replace a wheel and lug studs because it loosened up at about 30 hrs, and I didn't notice until it was too late. Other than that I have had no problems at all. It has done everything I have asked of it and then some. :thumbsup:

Thanks guys dealer gave me strict instructions for wheels I guess they've seen loose wheel nuts a lot well they never seen a loose nut like this anyhow had it back once for relief valve adj on FEL machine had no breakout power I'm running Horst welding 72" grapple bucket weighs 850lbs still am not happy with curl with load machine specs are in line to handle I might have to get back once more for relief adjustment. Man I loaded all my brush to one spot and lit it off instead of little fires everywhere I had a major blaze and it was over fast I fed it with air from backpack leaf blower been moving wood all over **** and my only prob now is my job getting in the way of what I want to do

Your requirement to lift a ton - have you tried it? Distance in front of the pins will difference but I can't lift a one ton pallet with mine, weight centered on the pallet and pallet as far back as possible. We had seed wheat in totes last year, tagged 2,020 pounds for one tote I remember, and I couldn't get it quite off the ground. We had to get our JD6230 which lifted it with ease but of course we are talking whole different class, heavy duty utility vs CUT.
