I wish I would have known about that attachment. I drilled the hole then used a 10 pd sledge. After the first thirty or so I was getting my accuracy back

It really looks a lot like a socket on an extension. You put the end of it over the rod, and you have the SDS Max set for hammer mode. They squeeze the trigger and it drives the rod on down into the ground. When going through landscape timbers, I've had no problem going four feet through five pre drilled timbers without any effort on my part. It will end with about an inch of the rebar still sticking out of the timber, but that's really easy to finish off with a sledge hammer!!!

Sorta like a giant palm nailer. I'll have to get one of those. I don't remember if my hammer drill has a setting for hammer only though. I'll have to check. I've been thinking about building a retaining wall using RR ties along a section of creek to stop the erosion. Sure wish I could get some at $3 each. I'm still amazed at that price.
