First 'Real' Tractor + A Question

Re: First \'Real\' Tractor + A Question

Mike -- I don't have a closeup, but the pic shows how I use my hooks. If you look at Von's setup and slide the hooks over to the outside edge of the loader with the slots running parallel to the forward edge of the bucket, you got the idea.

Re: First \'Real\' Tractor + A Question

Pete, it was an idea posted in the past. I don't remember if there was a photo or not. Being welder challenged, I haven't done it, just sounded good to me. Maybe someone else (with better brain cells left) will remember.

Re: First \'Real\' Tractor + A Question

I know this will be a real rookie question but...

What's the difference between a slip hook and a grab hook?

Re: First \'Real\' Tractor + A Question

Mike, look at http://www.northerntool.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ExecMacro/NTE_SEARCH.d2w/report?KEYWORDS=slip+hook&PHOTOS=on for pictures of slip hooks and http://www.northerntool.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ExecMacro/NTE_SEARCH.d2w/report?KEYWORDS=grab+hook&PHOTOS=onfor pictures of grab hooks. Grab hooks have a narrow slot, stick one link of a chain in it and it can't slip because the next link is at 90 degrees to the one in the hook. Slip hooks have big round center and a chain can slide, or slip, through them.

Re: First \'Real\' Tractor + A Question

It depends on whether the hook grabs the chain across the link (between two links) or whether the point of the hook enters the loop itself.

Since I've read this twice, and am still not sure if it is clear - a picture is worth two thousand of my words. For more hooks than you thought possible:

Re: First \'Real\' Tractor + A Question

Mark
I posted this picture last March. I use them a lot. The hooks are removable. I can change them from grab or slip hooks. I do have one problem with them./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif When I lift heavy items the top rolled lip of bucket will bend. I plan on fixing this by welding a round bar under lip. I'm building a grapple for my bucket. This is my winter project so it won't be done soon. When I bring bucket into shop to weld grapple I'll install bar then. When I get enough of it assembled I'll post some pictures.
