If it comes ashore like Hugo, I won't be worrying about some rain. I'll be worrying about my house being totally destroyed again! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Oh Man!!! I'm sorry you lost your home in Hugo.

We had a lot of wind damage, trees down and tornado damage and tons of rain from Hugo. My family in Virginia lost roofs from their homes and I went up there and helped them put a new roof on. I was amazed at the winds that destroyed the huge Black Locust Trees up there. And Hugo was only a Tropical Storm when it hit Virginia. These storms can really be bad and seem to be getting more fierce as time goes by.

Hi everyone,
Today was a productive day. The agriculture coop. was here this morning and plan on sod strips and drainage here on my Truck Patch Garden. Work is suppose to start on Monday Morning (Sept. 12, 2005) I will have pictures of that work as it is being done. We plan Blueberry Bushes in center of the Grass Sod and possible Concord Grape Vines in the Grass Sod so as to utilize all I can get from this property. Do any of you have other suggestions on what I could permanately plant in the center of the Grass Sod Areas? These sod areas are suppose to help with the washing and they suggested the Blueberry Bushes and Concord Grape Vines in the Grass Sod Areas so I would have some production from those areas and not be space that was not producing. That was some of my concerns losing this area to Grass Sod to prevent washing. I will post some pictures later today where it is marked with flags so you can see before and after.

I am thankful for the Agriculture People in our County. They are being very helpful in getting this property set up for a good productive piece of property. This will help me be able to make sure I do not lose my top soil from storms or atleast minimize the loss of topsoil.

Pictures of the progress will be posted as it is done.

The orange flags are for the drainage which will be V shaped and about 8 feet wide at the beginning at top and about 15 feet wide at the bottom. Grassed and about 12 inches deep in the center to carry the water into the woods.

From this view... you can see as it widens coming downward toward the bottom of the garden.

A gentleman is going to let me use his tractor with a FEL this weekend to allow me some help preparing the garden for the work on Monday. I will post his name as soon as he gives me permission. Here is a picture of some of the large rocks that will have to be removed over the weekend before the work can be done. This is just a sample of some of the rocks that have to be removed. Some of them are huge. Thanks to this gentleman for the use of his tractor. With the help of some of the people that I am going to help and this tractor we should have it ready for the work on Monday.

This is hard to see. The Lime Green Flags are where the Grass Sod will be made at a somewhat angle across the Truck Patch Garden.

I would have went straight across but what do I know... That is why I got the professionals involved in helping me prevent the washing to save my top soil and to help me get the most production out of the property I have. Probably will increase the value of my property as well. That can be good and bad. Especially when it comes to tax time.

There is going to be three Grass Sod areas and a road down each side that is grassed and at the bottom there will be a grass road across that is about 30 feet wide. We will be using a mixture of Fescue and Rye Wheat or something like that... not rye grass. They say it is different from Rye Grass. The most of the lower part of the Truck Patch Garden that I don't use for winter crops will be in the rye wheat to take care of it over the winter.

This should help when it comes time for the spring plowing and planting. This part of the planning is being done by professionals that know what they are doing. Somewhat outta my league of expertise. Thanks to Heather... this is getting done on Monday. I Thank God for all the help and Expertise that are out there to help me be more productive.
