I am Jim Bonham - President and Executive Director of the Lighthouse Food Farm.

We grow fresh fruits and vegetables to donate to help feed hungry Americans. All fruits and vegetables are organically grown. We raise a spring crop of the normal spring vegetables and during the winter we grow greens like Turnip Greens, Collards, Curly Mustard and Kale. We donate the fresh fruits and vegetables to soup kitchens, food banks, food shelves and to people that have fallen through the cracks of our system.

Raining again today /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif ... I know this will sound like a silly question but here goes. How do you know when it is too wet to plow? Can you tell by feeling the soil or do I need a moisture meter? I know the wiser farmers can answer this. Please help me out.

Jim, you'll know when the plow sticks and the tractor wheels just spin!!

Really, it's mostly a guessing game and depends on size of plow, 2wd vs 4wd, how much weight & HP your tractor has, how much tread (and type of tread) on the tractor tires, and the experience of the operator. If you're not sure if it's too wet, just hook up the plow and see how far you get with it. Worst can happen is you have to get another tractor to help you get yours unstuck, so be prepared for that scenario!! Diff lock can be your best friend too!!

I see you're in Westminster. I'm not all that far from you. Looks like you have a neat project going on there.

Btw, if you go to the everythingattachments.com website, there are over 50 videos on how to use most every attachment you can buy. They show the basics of operation and you might find them helpful.
