Allis Chalmers WD, John Deere 2010 Rowcrop
Hey all, new here. I started reading this forum a few weeks ago looking for info on snowblowers. I found a lot of helpful info here, thanks for sharing your knowledge. I used the 1ft of blower per 5hp theory for the smaller of my 2 tractors and it works, my application is not perfect, but it will get the job done, which is all I need.

I usually use a blade and FEL, but this year the snow keeps drifting in and making it harder and harder to feed round bales to our cows. I bought a used 6.5 foot Mckee in very good condition off Craigslist for $750. The paint is not very good, but mechanically it is very good. I was hoping to run it on my Allis WD, because I don't use that tractor for anything else in the winter. But the Allis is a little under powered and too fast in reverse, so I have to ride the hand clutch while looking backwards. It works but not operator friendly. I have a JD 2010 Row Crop that is in my shop right now getting some big problems resolved and I will be putting it on that if I get the tractor done before the snow lets up. For now I'm using my dad's TC33D New Holland 33 hp diesel hydrostat which runs it very well. Not super fast in big drifts but runs along fine in a foot or less.

I live on a dirt road and my county road commission seems to have forgotten how to get here. We have gone 5-6 days without a plow coming by and our road drifts in badly. Between the neighbors and myself we make swipes at it with back blades and fel's and a couple guys drop the blades on their trucks from time to time. But the edges have gotten so high that none of us could get the snow over the bank without using fels and that takes forever. Until now, I blasted the snow all the way back to the ditches last week and my neighbors have kept it bladed back pretty good since then. So this weekend I'll go blow it out again. It sucks we have to put wear and tear on our equipment, but its that or wear and tear on our vehicles. Not to mention its fun blowing snow, way more fun than plowing it, I don't know why. Definitely going to look into gettting some kind of cab though, I've frozen my keister off a couple times. Also going to get a hydraulic chute motor, its manual right now and works fine, but may not be user friendly with a cab.

Here is a couple pics of the old girl in action last night:

cool. the thing about snowblowers...they dont have to look good. they just have to run good.

Personally i touch up paint on mine every end of season....but that doesnt have to be done.

My old 3 point unit was about 8 years old, i just kept it lubed and oiled the chain every season.

Nothing like blower to get rid of the snow and not compound the problem with large banks.

You're going to really miss that hydrostat when you go to the 2010 given that 2010 has a very fast low reverse gear, slipping the clutch is a real pain and a good way to take one out, might want to just "happen" to not get that 2010 ready before the snow melts. :)

Amen to that Pillager. The 2010 is probably going to get traded in, hopefully on a hydro. Anybody have any experience with a using a power shuttle to blow snow? I've seen a couple decent deals on shuttle shifts recently and I was thinking if they were power shuttles they might not be a bad option for snowblowing. I think a hydro would be best, but I have to listen to my wallet. We don't get winters like this one very often and I can't buy a tractor specifically for blowing snow.

I have a 7 1/2 ft luck now blower on back of my NH TN75. It has a 16x16 tranny w/mechanical shuttle. Works very well. 90% of the time I select a gear and range and go. Seldom bump the clutch. But i did talk to another who has the 12x12 and really wished he had the 16x16. It's like your splitting the gears. I like it bushhogging also. I wouldn't hesitate if you've got plenty of gears. I would have liked the electronic shuttle, but i came across this tractor and got a great deal. A fella had to liquidate his assets in a hurry.

wango,

when i did need to slow down, I just dropped a gear. Didn't need to stop. just threw in the clutch and shifted. I have operated hydro units and they are nice, but for me bush hogging or snowblowing, i prefer a manual trans. Pick a gear and ride. I have also operated a 16x16 with electronic shuttle, it worked pretty slick. Just throw the lever forward or reverse, and it was smooth. This was on a snowmobile trail groomer/converted tractors.
