First spring skunk

Yes, but a single shot with 12 ga & #2 shot covers a bigger area and up close & personal it will darn near bury them too. Dusty3030 - I've never heard of the phosphorescent effect. Actually, my days with skunks are dramatically fewer. One of my really close neighbors who lives 1.5 miles away moved back to Oklahoma. He was a burn barrel advocate and burned all his garbage. Those were the real days of the "Skunk wars". Every night when I would take the dog out to do his business - I'd take the shotgun. Sure as shoot, there would be one of those sneaky buggers lurking around my out buildings.

I am another advocate of the 12 gauge.. In my limited skunk destruction, I believe in getting them dead in the shortest time possible.

Shotgun works good too, no spray, just leakage. I leave the ported turkey choke tube in my Benelli most all the time and have used it on quite a few skunks with high brass 7 1/2s.
I've tried a .410 too full choke with 6's but it didn't nail em dead so I abandoned it. (pumping and reloading a Mossberg .410 on the run with a flashlight in the other hand was cumbersome as well)

I've got a GoPro I need to stick on the side of my gun or light.
I will surely have another to go after soon.
I am sure you folks could find some entertainment in a middle aged man running around in his pajamas and crocs with a gun and a flashlight on a skunk safari.

.223 or .308? Nah maybe a 7mm Rem Mag that way you can shoot it and clean it up at the same time. That smell makes want to lose my lunch.

8N Ren - Surprisingly, when it is an often happening event you will get somewhat used to the smell. Kind of like living down wind of a large stockyard. What I don't like is opening the front door and have one sitting on the front porch. Like he's been there a while, just waiting for you. I've come quite close to blowing a hole in the front porch.

I always leave a skunk lay for a day after I kill them before I move them. Less smell but anyway you move them, they stink.
