Wow! That would be enough to get my ears to stand up!

Good that you found someone experienced to help guide you through. Lot's of stuff that can trip up the progress if not correctly addressed (I'll put SOME, not all, building inspectors in this catagory).

Who knows, by the time you get finished you may decide to become a GC yourself!

(By the way, let me know if you see some of the guys in person on your vacation. Didn't I read about that somewhere? )

You sure did! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

We leave this coming Saturday and will be back on the 24th or 25th. We're spending the middle week at a resort (Smuggler's Notch) just over the hill from Pete. We're trying to work up some kind of get together with Pete, Sugarmaker, Alan40, Hazmat, and a couple of others (sorry guys, I can't remember everybody that has expressed interest in joining us! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif). Pete's been kind enough to offer to host something at his place. I keep trying to tell him that his place is too good for the likes of us! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif We'll see what works out.

I'm also hoping to stop by Von's place on the way over from Buffalo to Lake George. I guess we'll be going right by his place. And on Saturday morning, the 11th, I may be having breakfast with Rancar just south of where we're staying in Lake George.

You can check everything out in the thread that Pete posted in Rural living Visiting Vermont???

I definitely plan on taking pictures if we can meet these different fellows. It'll be great!

(We're planning on some bold colors for a change in this house,)

That's great. Thanks to the wife, we're one of the first houses in our area that had a RED living room. I know bold!! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

And it looks GREAT! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Looking forward to seeing pics of it as you progress. Let me know if we can help in any way! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Real beautiful place you've got there Bill. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif Keep the pictures coming. Do you have some plan drawings or a schematic that you can post so we can see the floor layout? How large of a parcel is this property?

Re: First: The Land. Now, the house on \"The Land\"

Thanks, Bob. We bought 8.1 acres of a 27 acre parcel. We agreed with our neighbor to very restrictive, voluntary covenants so that only 2 houses will ever be allowed on the parcel. Both families want to preserve the land, even when we're all gone. It's a nice arrangement. Our 8 acres is essentially flat and is bordered by ravines, so it's a peaceful environment with lots of wildlife, little noise and a great place to raise our daughter.

Re: First: The Land. Now, the house on \"The Land\"

Thanks, Curt.

I have more pictures and I'll post later in the week. Trusses are going on now amidst the leaves changing -- it's really beautiful. On Friday, they should start setting windows, with the roof to follow next week. Then, siding (Hardie concrete-based material) will be put on. We have 2 different lap widths picking up various trim lines on the house. We're really getting excited now. Check back later for more pictures.

Re: First: The Land. Now, the house on \"The Land\"

Some significant progress since I last posted. Here are a few from trusses to sheathing. You'll get the idea and there are some good shots from the trees on the Land. Bear with me; we're pretty excited right now. Most of the windows on the house were installed on Friday. The fasia will be constructed starting next week. Comments appreciated.

First is a view from the front if there is one with start of trusses.

Re: First: The Land. Now, the house on \"The Land\"

It's getting fun -- the SE elevation with some sheathing. The "pavillion is on the left with matching porch on the right. The porch will be screened.
