Jerry .
Just a suggestion. But ,go onto the various forums here (nh ,kub, jd Mahindra,etc.. ) and ask the owners of their machines what they think of them . Again explain the uses you expect . You'll get some pretty decent advice . For me , personally the best thing I added to my machine was a loader with removable tooth bar . You'll get a lot of answers from a lot of different perpectives . But then , it's from users ,not specific dealers . Armed with the answers you get here you'll be able to make a better informed decision when it's time to by no matter which brand or model . Take your time, do your research, and most of all enjoy your choice when you decide. All the best , John

"Watch out for the Junkman, he's crazy..."

MEAN, MEAN, MEAN comment. If you were dense enough to actually try his advice on giving a cat the toilet bath you must be lacking a few brain cells yourself. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

You said it right, the more you look here, the more questions you have. I was very fortunate, I made my tractor purchase without even knowing about this site and have been very pleased with my choice. But a lot of the information I needed to obtain took much longer than it should have and I only had one tractor owning friend to advise me. A prospective buyer who locates TBN before spending his dollars is indeed fortunate.

Welcome to TBN, read all you can, ask as many questions as you want, and most of all, LEARN from the experience the members have to share.

I dont know which i would need, not even sure what hydro is, i believe it means automatic but not sure. I am very very green at this

Jerry , I'll try to answer your question . But I'm sure it's somewhat lacking . A hydro trans is not an automatic in the respesct that it doesn't have P R N D 1 2 selector . You set your throttle to a given engine speed and control forward/reverse speed by using the hst (trans ) pedal .
Basically the trans is a variable speed pump controlled by the amount of pedal you give it . You do however get 2 or 3 ranges of gearing to choose the speed of your tractor overall . (High .Low , Medium ) Then you control the speed of the tractor in that range with the hst pedal . Clear as mud , Right ? John

Based upon the answers you've posted here...a "Grey Market" or lesser known brand is probably not the way to go for you. Maintenance could be a challenge...one you have to decide if you're ready for that.

You, in my humble opinion, should stick to one of the big three Tractor manufacturers...perhaps one closest, since your experience isn't quite there yet.

If a new machine is beyond your reach, financially...then look used for an early 90's Deere or other brand. The Deeres of that era are really tough machines.

As far as a Hydro...depends on you usage. I have gears, but I don't find that a hindrance.

Good luck on your search!
