First time plowing. How'd I do?

Very Nice,, Plow in the fall, let it set and freeze - thaw all winter. Double disk in the spring to further bust the clods. All old school,, and I love it that way.. What are your plans for the spring? What you going to plant? You did MUCH better than my first plow work. Nice job and looked like a nice fall day too.

We'll plant field corn on 1/3 of it, and various green manures in another 1/3, and deer plot in the last. That way we can rotate them. We want to make our own chicken feed, so we'll grow the corn (because we want to), and the rest of the grains we can buy bulk from a local mill.

Most of the field was a breeze, but I widened the borders (probably too close to the willows) at one point, busting through thick sod and tree roots. This is NOT a breaking plow! I used every bit of the 40 hp and 8600+ lbs to get through. Boy did that Major bark!

Gotta love it when somebody rescues an old piece of iron from out of the woods, and massages it over a bit, and then puts it back to its intended use!!!! Good looking soil, nice straight rows, and a beautiful day with family present to make it all the more enjoyable. Good job!!!!

Thanks! The Fordson is about 40hp. I'm also guessing it weighs around 8600lbs as currently ballasted (although I could be way off). Lots of traction!

Thanks, kebo. That black dirt is mostly drained and cleared swampy forest, just below a sand and gravel ridge, where all the buildings are built. Nice arrangement. The whole family has really been enjoying getting the old farm back into shape. It was homesteaded by my wife's grandparents 103 years ago and last farmed almost 40 years ago. Lots to do, but we're making progress.

Not much plowing around this part of the country, but my favorite activity. Would loved to have been there with my setup, would have been fun for three days for me. LOL

Plowing the garden with BX2200 - YouTube

I think that's just awesome! I'd love to get a smaller set-up for plowing the garden. Not enough room to get the 3-bottom rig turned around for that.
