Budget for implements.

And...

BUY FOR USE AND [then] USE! It's unlikely that you're going to take a loss on any piece of equipment (after factoring in the work that you've gotten done with it).

Very accurate statement. Budget for implements and buy only what you need. Renting equipment for those one time small jobs is better than purchasing implements.

However, I am now committed to purchasing a PTO chipper (WoodMax) after thinking a rental was best way to go.

For last 6 months I was renting Vermeer chipper to cleanse my lot of the estimated 10 tons of branchs from clearing operations. Burning is not allowed due to the severe dry weather conditions in Texas. I estimate another 85 tons remain, and it will be much cheaper to purchase and sell, than rent in long term.

Good luck with your purchase.

I have resorted to burying stumps. If you've got a digger it's nothing to dig a bit more. Ground gets fairly saturated here, in which case stuff that's buried to any reasonable depth doesn't decompose very fast; and, places where I bury present no concerns for a bit of deformation (just matches most of my land!). I did, however, do a bunch of burning early on, of mostly smaller stuff (but this was when I was a total newbie), so I can't say that general debris burying is something that I have a lot of experience with.

Buying, using and then reselling when the project is done is smart!
