Do you Guys think a 5603 would be up to 6x4 round bales and maybe a 15' batwing? Its about 82 pto hp and a little over 7000lbs before any additional ballast. Those are the biggest things I think I might want to do at some point.

5603 would be a good choice. How does the price compare to a 5x25?

A 5603 is probably going to be somewhere in the 40k range. That would only get you something like a 5225 cab comparing apples to apples. I think I would take the extra 30hp and live without a few options; the 5603 is very nicely equipped.

I agree.. I usually prefer 'spartan' tractors in exchange for usable options like size / hp / capability.. IE.. iron and rubber vs chrome.. etc.

I'd rather have a few more pesos in the bank and hp under the hood than have a deluxe cupholder myself. ;)

Old school, and happy about it.

If I were standing on the porch faced with a 100 acres to mow, I'd want 85 HP and a batwing...

I don't have a 100 acres and I still want 85 HP and a batwing. :(

As a reference: My 5525 cab 4wd was $41K 2 years ago.

I did some playing around on the John Deere configurator the other night. a 5225 cab 2wd with a 12 speed power reverser was cheaper than a 4720 cab by many $$$$.

You might be able to go larger for less money than you think. The margins on the 4x20s must be good for JD.

Depending on how much time you want to spend mowing - you need to look at larger mowers. Then again, you might just love it in a cab with a 6' mower.

I have the John Deere HX-15 15' batwing. It was around $10K or a tad more.

Implements can add up in a hurry. Don't skimp on the tractor, but just remember that is only the beginning in regards to expense.
