Hello
Our son just received a Fisher Price Power Wheel battery car from his grandparents. It is one of the Jeeps that he can ride in and drive. He loves the car, but the hard plastic tires seem to spin all of the time on grass or gravel. I was thinking about mounting some rubber strips on the tires to give a little more traction.

Anyone else done something similar or have any other ideas?

Don't know if they ever ride on concrete/pavement, but if they do be careful as you don't want them getting too much traction. You'll either tear the gears out or burn the motor up. Could also possibly get the kids hurt.

We've had two of those 'power wheels' type machines. After a week or so of driving the plastic wheels will get quite rough and the traction problems won't seem like an issue.

Maybe he's just imitating Dad!? /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Know-what-ya-mean! We've been there and done that. On the Jeep, I initially tried scuffing up the drive tires, no help there. Ended up attaching a brick under jeep in rear, fair amount of improvement. Ended up putting silicone around drive tires, waited a few days and it worked great. That said, it's peeling off a bit at a time and the rubber strips seem like a much better option. Let us know what you do and how it works. Regards: Glenn

My son has one of those (the Silverado style one) and I think the exact same thing every time he rides on it.

I've thought about some type of rubber band, because it would have to be smooth all around (to avoid it "thumping" every wheel rotation) but haven't been able to come up with a solution.

That silicone idea sounds good, except for maybe on the grass.

These things have an incredible about of torque. If my son loses traction on the grass, all I really need to do is push down on the rear end and it goes along ok.

I tied a rope to his wagon and he enjoys pulling it around like a trailer.

Let me know if you come up with a solution!

There are people on EBAY selling traction kits, all they are is inner tubes though

I built a trailer hitch for my sons PowerWheels. Funny thing is, a kid was visiting my neighbor one day and this kid somehow got his clothes hooked to the hitch and got dragged about five feet. I saw the whole thing from about fifty feet away. The kids father (city slicker) freaked out as if the kid was caught in a meat grinder /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
