Fixing Big Tractor Chains?

Any hints on how to remove/replace 3/8" type cross chains other than buying the big chain repair tool?

and has anyone used that big 33" tool and how does it work?

i would buy the tool if it were me, or keep an eye out for a used pair, most of the older ones worked better than alot of the newer ones. they make the job alot easier, well worth the money, there also great for opening and closing s hooks and things like that

I have used a chisel to drive the two apart. and then a large pliers to close them.Or better yet a vise.

I got the big 33" tool from tirechains.com.

Whew! The only way to do it IMHO and even then it is a bear for 65lb each 11.2 x 24 cross chains.

Just needed to replace one cross chain set.

Thanks guys for this post. I didn't know about the big 33" tool.

I ordered one and it just came today. Worked great on the links I was removing and for several repairs. Well worth the money!
