Some follow up on installing a new water pump. We ended up taking the front grill, radiator, and fan off the tractor along with the engine side panels. When we got into the job, it turned out to be a good time to replace some failing hoses and to clean out the radiator and straighten the fins. The benefit of taking everything in front of the water pump off for the water pump repair is that you can address a number of engine-cooling issues at the same time. I uploaded three pics - one of what the newly installed water pump looked like with a couple of new hoses on it, one of what my cleaned out radiator looks like, and one of my brother putting the fan belt on so you can see the process involved in reinstalling the parts taken off.
I cleaned out the radiator with an air hose, a water hose, then back to an air hose. I used the water hose to clean the fins and flush the radiator of any remaining fluid and dirt that might be in it. I also straighten out a bunch of fins so the radiator could breath better. I used a utility knife with a blade used for cutting ashphalt shingles to do so. This seems to be the best tool available for the job. It is slow iterative work but in the end all the fins were clean and straight again.
Hope this helps.

Paul
