Got the plug out. I tried it from a different angle and was able to get much better leverage. I'm having a much harder time pulling the screen out that I thought it would be. It wiggles a bit, but I can't get enough of a bite to pull it out and I'm just tearing up the edges of the screen. Am I doing something wrong? Its bad dirty, so its not like I can just let it go for now. This is the last thing that's holding me up before I start to put things back together, so any help is greatly appreciated!

If screen is dirty then you'll need to get it out. The screen can crumple and make it more difficult to remove. You'll probably need a new screen.

Sorry for the delay Curdy. A couple of the companies are based in Md. The national one was Weller. They had great coverage and warranty. Others were Md truck, and transaxle. I think Weller would be the best bet. If they dont have one on the shelf they will take ours and turn it around in five days guaranteed.

Thanks, I'll look those guys up.

I got the screen out. I remembered I had bought a set of picks a while back for just this sort of thing. While it still took quite a bit of tugging, it worked its way out. There was so much stuff wedged around it, its no surprise it was so hard to pull out. I've got to think the hydraulics will work a whole lot better with this thing even being 1/2 as clean.

Is there an opening somewhere above the area that I just pulled the screen from that I could run some fluid down to flush it out some? I haven't taken a peak in there yet, but I've got to think there's a good bit of junk still in there. Pretty long and narrow area for me to get in and wipe it out. I can do the best I can with wiping, but if I can flush it with something, that would be more ideal I think.

Thoughts???

Also, are there any other screens that are part of this system? With this one being as bad as it is, I want to make sure I clean out any others I can. Thanks!!!

Happy Father's Day to all you dads out there too.

IIRC the open-center hyd 2040 such as yours has no other screens unlike the closed-center models that have a small screen in the frt hyd pump

Finally had some time to get everything back together yesterday. The screen cleaned up nice after quite a bit of scrubbing. She runs nice! Hydraulics are much smoother. Here's a shot of the screen before I cleaned it.

Wow, how time flies!

Latest issue was the radiator boiling over. I'm going to flush the system and was also thinking it would be a good idea to replace the thermostat while I was at it. My parts catalog lists 3 different ones (180F, 192F, and 205F). Can someone recommend what to go with here?

AT22961 THERMOSTAT 82XC (180XF) (SUB RE33705)
AT22963 THERMOSTAT 89ーC (192ーF)
AT24013 THERMOSTAT 96ーC (205ーF)

THANKS!!!

Opinions are similar to navels, everybody's got one. But since you asked you live in PA not down here in the desert of Texas. I presume it gets colder in the Winter and stays that way longer than down here. Engines run better if they get over 200 degrees in the Winter. You can get a thermostat from JD.
