Never made a carbide bomb, don't even know what it is.
I DID display my stupidity once when I was young.
Long story made longer /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif, Dad had a working cannon. Had a 2" bore I think. We'd shoot rags out of it. Because of having it, we had a volume of black powder and primer.
I'd take the black powder & fill a 16 oz glass coke bottle and a longggggggggggggggggggggggggggg fuse.
Went out into farmers field & lit fuse & ran. Unfortunately, we'd not taken into account the recent rain and how much mud would stick to our shoes. It was VERY difficult running away from that thing.
Fortunately, we all (yes, there was more than stupid me taking part in this) got away far enough when it blew.
We went back to the crater and my foggy memory tells me it blew a hole in the ground 3 or 4 feet wide by a couple feet deep.
I'd never put much forethought into the coke bottle becoming shrapnel as the shards of glass would come whizzing by us until I was trying to run away from it.
I had done some smaller "events" like this with less powder. Once I did this one and had difficulty in getting away I learned my lesson and it was the last time I ever did it.
I don't recommend that act of stupidity to anyone as something to do.
