Flat face coupler

Yup been dealing with this on my backhoe. I made a valve with male and female connector on it. Open the valve and attach the implement to it...a bit of fluid spits out. Then attach to the tractor. In Europe they have a great tool for compressing these connectors together. The HOLP QUICKON. No way to buy or get one here in the States. I tried. These connectors were designed to save the world of a little drop of fluid..but, since they dont work, everyone cracks the connectors loose from the hoses or drips it out with the Waite tool and spills more then the ag connectors...so stupid

I don't have to connect them often, but it is usually a challenge. One of my biggest complaints is the price, I had to replace the female connector, and the best price I could find was $178 delivered.

No I don’t own one. Found these on eBay today. The one I made that is similar with a screw clamp doesn’t take much force. If there is resistance felt I wiggle the tool/fittings to better align the couplers. Never have a problem or damage....yet.

One advantage of clamping VS a Waite pliers is there is no fluid loss. Disadvantage is must have room for the clamp. So far not a problem with my equipment.

When I raised this issue years ago here I got a lot of people saying "I've never had a problem, must be you". I created my own tool with a male fitting on one end of a pipe nipple, and a female on another with a T in the center open to the air to relive pressure, similar to other posts on this thread. That helps but still is not quite enough. I have used a quick grip clamp to help out also, but I never made any special ends to grab the fittings, so it is not great. And the REAL kicker: I even got "connect under pressure" fittings from Discount hydraulic fittings, and still have problems. They are a bit better than regular but i still end up fighting at least one of them on my grapple.

I made one too. It makes putting my 4:1 Bucket back on actually possible.

20 years ago when I bought my first grapple, talked to bobcat dealer owner on having trouble connecting with flat face connectors. Everybody is cracking a fitting, preferably a JIC to relieve pressure on implements. Defeating one of the advantages of the flat face connectors. Taking the usual steps to prevent pressure buildup works 80% of the time. Days where I’m changing out implements frequently, the clamp helps progress.
