flat faced quick disconnects issues

I am surprised people are having problems with flat faced connectors. I switch everything over to them when I can. They are easy to keep clean and no fluid loss when connecting/disconnecting.

That would be great except my $35,000 machine has them built in. I could tear all that out, but I am not ready to start that kind of mods to this machine.

It all depends on whether you like the setup or not.

If it is not broke, don't fix it. Those female fittings cost about $78.00.

The male counter part is a 8010 male coupler.

However, you can't go wrong with a set of $13. couplers, as spares.

Not sure what brand couplers you are using but I do know that we have some Snap-tite 78 series at work that if disconnected with some trapped pressure the nipple will fail to close almost every time. This cuts the seals and I have never been able to get one apart and back together yet.

When connected I have never had an issue with flow closing them and we have run 30+ GPM though #8 SAE size.

Not meaning any disrespect there is just alot of cheap crap out there and alot of it is on ebay. Can us send me a link to one of yours? I like buying off of stand up folks. Gonna need spares just in case this one goes out.

Jeff

78 Series? That's a wing-nut design (aka "Wet Line Coupler"). It's a completely different animal from what we've been discussing here. One of the advantages of this design is the ability to connect under pressure.

Duhhhh, meant the 71 series. Just ordered some -24 SAE 78 series for high flow and that number stuck in my head.

thanks for catching that, don't want to intentionally mislead people.

I agree with the trapped pressure theory. It's disastrous on some of those couplers.

Figured out Hydraulic Hose guy I do have some of your Ends, I bought them from you for the tractor side of my setiup before we laid out the money for the MTL. Come to think of It we have had them on there for about 3 ish years without a problem. I need to get a couple sets from you for backups. After replacing this one on the bucket side we are not having any issues. After looking at the old one it is a Parker and it appears something broke internaly as all the guts are pushing out of it. I pitched it in the junk pile.

Thanks again for all the info.

Are these Connect under residual pressure rated? Do they come in 1/4 " and 1/2" sizes for NPT threads?

The couplers we list on eBay do not connect under pressure. We do have on our website, a connect-under-pressure male coupler, and a connect-under-pressure female coupler. See links below.

http://www.discounthydraulichose.com...t_p/ht-cup.htm

Please note: you cannot connect with both couplers under pressure. In order for either of these couplers to connect under pressure, they must be joined with a compatible mate that is NOT under pressure.
