Flat Feet and the Good Feet Store

I often thought of going there but it's about 75 mile round trip. And I've heard similar stories about the cost. I also heard about some New Balance walking shoes. I bought a pair last summer and liked them so well, I bought another pair so I can wear the "old ones" in the shop. I bought the hook and loop since my arthritis flares up and it's hard for me to tie my own shoes.

I bought these: New Balance Men's 813 V1 Hook and Loop Walking Shoe

I forgot to mention, these have removable/replaceable inserts if you need to change them out.

I bought that same shoe in October. It took a week or so to break them in but they fit great now.
I need to get a second pair for dress up.

I wear Red Wings for work boots. I also use their inserts that you first warm up in the oven, then put them in the boot while still warm and put them on. Then stand and walk around in them and they "mold" to your foot.

Best money I've spent on my feet.

Find custom boot maker, the ones that cast your feet they can probably make them.
The New balance store will make a mold of your feet and send it off for custom orthotics. The issue is they are pricy and only last up to 3 years.

Good Feet Store will do a set as well. But same deal and last up to 5 years. They are made out of the same insole material as the off the shelf ones. Anywhere from $200 to a $500 price tag

I've never seen those insoles before. I'll have to look into them.

Different boots for different feet Work has a deal with red wing boots. But I haven't had much luck with them. My biggest issue with the red wing boots is the steel toe portion always seems to dig into a certain spot on my toes. I've tried wide, half size bigger, 1 size bigger, with out any luck.

Irish setters (made by red wing) seemed to be better and less issue. But even with orthotics the hard soles seems to irritate my planer fascias.

I went with Timberland Pros this time around with a rubber sole and just put the alloted amount work will kick in for boots on my company credit card. So far so good. My toes have been thanking me, and my heals haven't been complaining as loud

When I was having knee and feet issues my primary Dr referred me to Orthopedic specialist who worked a lot with runners (I am not one). He had me walk up and down his hallway barefoot. I have flat feet, fallen arches (not the real medical term) and pronate bad (feet roll in when walking). He made orthotics there in his office. Had me put them in my shoes and walk again. He then adjust them til he was pleased with my gait. Adjusting consisted of using a grinder on some parts and glueing more material to other parts. I have good insurance that paid for this. This was about 15 years ago and I now have 3 pair orthotics and use all including the first pair. No problems since.

So just wondering, over the years I've spent a lot of money going to Podiatrists and I'm convinced, the only thing they want to do is sell you arch supports.

My condition is genetic for sure, I was born with flat feet. But the older I get the bigger the problem. My balance sucks, one of my knees is screwed up, and when I spend a lot of time cranking out firewood, my back hurts.

So finally after ignoring their commercials, decided to visit a Good Feet Store. What they told me made sense-until the guy tells me the price! Very pricey.

So the question, anyone out there had any experience with Good Feet?

Yeah... I tried one of them out; $400 bucks for arch supports. I have the same problems as you... 40 years of hard construction, on my feet all day, yada, yada, yada.... The best solution I have found are very good boots (I buy Danner) xtra wide, and the Dr. Scholl inserts sold at most Walmarts (I buy mine on Amazon since I know which ones I need). My left knee is bone on bone that likes to slide around once in awhile. That's real fun too...

Back in the 80's the Red wings would fit like a glove but now I have issues. I have skinny feet so I was able to find a few pair of the OLD style boots for good prices.
