Flat Rows vs Raised Rows vs Furrowed Rows

I agree with Mark, I think it's all about drainage and soil temps. In my neck of the woods we have cold damp springs with a fair amount of rain so raised beds lessen the chance of the seeds rotting before they germinate.

Oops, my bad, I glanced and thought you were in Southern California rather than S. Carolina. At least here in N. Georgia raised rows are the standard to help drain the spring rains and get the soil temps up into the 50's for planting.

Sounds like it's a germination thing. Makes sense.

I live in sandy well-drained soil so my problem is keeping ENOUGH moisture in the dirt to germinate/grow.

When the dude came out to do a perk test on the property he dug a hole with his post hole diggers, filled the hole with water and it was gone in less than a minute. No drainage problems around here.

Coon dogs... 40 years ago (when coons and badgers and things with fur were worth somethin') you couldn't throw a dead cat around without hittin' somebody that didn't have 3-4 dogs.

Walker's, Black and Tans, and Blue ticks. Ah... the smell of those carbide lamps at 3am.. :D

And I even like the looks of the Caroni, too!

I grew up huntin' Coon with my cousins over Blueticks and Black-n-Tans. Used to stay out all night on Friday and Saturday rip roaring around the countryside in a beat up old Chevy pickup...... when we were thirteen years old!!! Not a driver's license in the bunch. My how times have changed.

I've had Labradors since I became an "adult" but I always longed for a Bluetick just like old Queeny. Figured I'd better get one before I was too old to handle it. They can be a hand full!!! This one is two years old. I've enjoyed her so much I just got me a Black-n-Tan pup.

I must be insane.

You won't get an argument from me... They've got a whole 'nother level of desire when it comes to huntin'!

Used to take me 3 days to recover from a weekend of tryin' to keep up with those dogs!

Incredible energy..

That dog was fast,he wouldn't chase cars,he would race them, broke my windshield one time by racing ahead of me on gravel road and kicking up a rock,[no lie].

And I thought I was the only one with that problem. It's hard to check the cows on the ATV with him. He likes to run.. uh race the bike, and when he gets in front, it's roost in your eye!!! This is an old pic, but the best i could find right now, he's not huge but weights about 125lb. Huge baby!
