Tractor
Mahindra 5155
I finally got to use my new Mahindra 3525 tractor today. It had been raining since I bought it and we finally got 5 days with no rain. So started cutting a trench to help drain our front yard. I got into some pretty wet areas, so I figured it was time to stop and hook up the shredder and tackle our weed infested pasture. I cut about 5 acres and called it a day. It did a great job cutting through the tall stalky weeds, like wild sunflowers and a few other weeds I don't know the name of. We also have a lot of mesquite.

Anway, after parking the tractor and going inside to cool off, I come back out an notice the left rear tire is completely flat. I see no nails, screws, thorns or any other obvious puncturing debris, so I fill it back up, once it got to about 10lbs of pressure, I hear air coming out of the bottom of the valve stem. What would cause that? Is the valve stem defective or have I punctured the tire somewhere?

Next question, if it's not a warranty issue, where should I bring the tire for repair?

Tube or tubeless? If it has a tube, the leak can be anywhere. The air is just leaking out at point of least resistance. Tubeless and you have a bad stem. In any event, you'll be breaking down the bead to repair. Tires are almost always covered bt tire manufacturers warranty and not tractor warranty. In all likelyhood, you'll end up eating the bill unless you just happen to have a dealer with a lot of love for his customers.

Yeah that makes sense. It probably does have a tube and was punctured by something and now the air is making it's way to the stem area.

So who do I take the tire to? Will a normal automotive tire repair shop repair a tractorl tire?

You might want to give them a call first. In farming country, I think almost all the tire repair shops will work on tractor tires, but in the city might be a different matter.

Etch, My local dealer arranged for a warranty replacement for one of my tires that was almost two years old. Goodyear offers hazard warranties in the tractor tires they supply to manufacturers. Might not need it this time, but would be a good question for your local tire store.

I'm on the east side near Randolph Air Force Base off of 1604. I had the front tires filled with 80% liquid, but they recommended not to do the bad tires as the ride would be pretty rough. I'm thinking a rough ride may be better than fixing a flat everytime I mow.

Anyone with rear tires liquid filled? Is the ride really rough?

mineare filled with a solid foam no air, no flex,no flats ever I have seen construction tractors with the foam showing. A freind used the tractor in Houston I had it at his farm before I could move it. He said it is very rough only Hi 2nd gear but my land is very bad and I will mow in 1st lo or hi only. I hope it works.

IMHO, the ride is BETTER with fluid filled rears. Not nearly as much "bounce".

Just a thought the valve is in 2 parts so you can add water check it to be sure both parts are tight

Yeah you can unscrew the top part of the valve, but the air is coming through the hole in the wheel where the valve stem protrudes.

Here's another question. How much do think a rear tire/wheel weighs on a 3525 Mahindra?

I think those on the new Mahindras are tubeless. The valve has a flange on one end. It stricks thru the rim hole from the inside and the the flange is pulled tight against the inside surface by a nut on the topside. There is probably a rubber seal washer on the flange to prevent leaks when tight. Maybe the top nut is not tight. Maybe the seal is bad - due to a warrantee issue or damage due the valve being knocked by a piece of heavy debris on the outside. Is the valve tight in the rim? You should not be able to move it at all with hand force.

It does have a top nut and it is pretty loose, but the other tire seems to be the same way. I hand tightened it, but still hear air. I will try tightening it some more. The dealer said that both tubeless and tubed tires come with the Mahindra and they weren't sure which one I got. Will it say on the tire?

I'm suprised the dealer filled the front tires. I've always been told you only fill rears. All my rears are filled and the ride is fine. Around here, I get my tires fixed at truck tire dealers.

I had asked about punctures and since the front tires are not as beefy as the back tires, they suggested to have them filled to protect against thorns. Back tires are usually filled for weight and traction.

Most tires today say "Tubeless-Can be used with tube" so that wont help. From your description tho, Im pretty sure yours have tubes in them. Im thinking weight with tire, rim, tube - - W/O Hub section. AGs? will be about 200#. If you never plan on filling them you could use a couple gallons of the slush type leak stop solutions like Slime. Gemplers carries some heavier duty stuff. Thes coat the inside of the tire/tube and clot at a puncture site to plug it.

200# huh? Well that won't be fun getting off and getting to a tire place.

What I do is jack and block up the rear then remove wheel. Roll it to front and use loader the lift it into p/u.

Well if it has a tube, how hard is it to pull the tire off and repair the tube? Patching a tube is pretty easy.
