New Holland TL90 & TN65
Just feel like venting a bit.

I have a TL-90 and a TN-65.

After this last hay cutting they were both due for service.

So I went to my local NH dealer.

For the TL-90, I got two hydraulic oil filters, one outside engine air filter, engine oil filter, two cab air filters, and two carbon filters for the cab.

For the TN-65 I got one hydraulic oil filter, one engine oil filter, and one outside engine air filter.

Anyone want to guess the total for all of this????

$422.88 and that didn't include the $98 for the rotella oil I picked up at Wal-Mart. So in all this little service job cost me $520.88 Thank god I can do all the work myself.

I just thought it was a bit exspensive, but at least some of the filters have a 400 hour lifespan.

Forget the dealer...

I have had good luck with NAPA- they have Wix Gold replacements for almost all air, oil and hydraulic filters we use (on Kubota, JD and MF stuff).

In addition, they run very good sales several times per year; you can stock up on a box-load of filters for the season.

Just bring the OEM filter numbers to them, rather than have them look up the filters by tractor model...

Yeah, I would and could do that but the dealer is closer than NAPA. Oh well, at least some of them will be on there for a few hunderd hours. Next time though it is gonna be NAPA.

When I called the dealer about a hyd filter for my 2120, I was told "You don't want to buy it from me".

You didn't mention that half the filter cost (or nearly so) was for the carbon cab filters. Do you need them, or just want them?

I try to stick with the original NH filters, but it's getting difficult for me to justify that loyalty when I get them home and look at them more closely and find that some of them are now made in China. Grrrrr....

You really need to check the NAPA price against the dealer's OEM price. It might surprise you. NAPA used to be a good bit cheaper, but no more.
For example, the NAPA air filter for my Kenworth is $92. The OEM filter from the Kenworth/CAT dealer is $98, and the Fleetguard brand is $52.

Not to belittle your filter problem by any means, but it seems to me that virtually all parts are insanely expensive, and I believe that's one of the big incentives for the companies to keep so many different models of tractor and change them all the time. They don't want another 8n situation where it makes sense for third parties to be making parts for an ubiquitous tractor. A small pin broke in my loader lever last year, and the pin is not replaceable. The whole part, which is about the size of a tennis ball and about four ounces of metal was over $300, so I drilled it out and replaced the pin with a 75 cent hardware store pin. Would feel a lot better replacing the whole shuttle part, but not $300 better.

Couple years ago the little ball on the loader handle came off and I spent two hours finding it. Swore at myself for wasting all that time looking for what was probably a two dollar part, but later looked it up and found it was 20 bucks!! Service manual sold in bits and pieces at $50 a piece? Give me a break. It's a very sad situation all the way around. Everyone out to get rich quick and forget about any loyalty to the suckers who drop thousands of dollars on a piece of equipment.

I wanted to comment on the filter prices... I really like my local NH dealer but the filters are 3x the price at NAPA and these days I really need to stretch the dollars I spend as far as I can. When I spoke with my NAPA dealer they said their filters are as good if not better than OEM. I can't fault the dealer at all but I just can't spend 32.00 on a fillter that I can get for 11.00 at NAPA. Guess it's a personal decision we all have to make.

The inner and outer air filter for my tractor is just short of 100.00 at the auto parts stores.
The best deal i can find online is just over 50.00.
