You didn't mention that half the filter cost (or nearly so) was for the carbon cab filters. Do you need them, or just want them?

Good catch!!! Filter prices vary often depending on how many, OEM, economy, and where you are buying them! As a dealer we do often hear that our prices are often lower then auto parts stores. There is the other side but they are not buying a brand that I would even being cheaper unless it was an emergency.

Using non OEM filters scares me. So I bite the bullet and buy OEM from NH dealers, but I don't like it, lol..

The air filters in the cab had been in there for over 500 hours, needless to say they had been cleaned out so many times that they were beginnning to fall apart. So yes, they were needed. The most exspensive filters were the three hydraulic filters, they came in at about $49 each, and I needed all three. One tractor takes two of them.

There are two sites online that sell Wix filters at great prices and offer free shipping on orders over $100. I buy all my filters in one lick that way. Wix is a quality made filter that is OE on countless brands of equipment plus most of them are made right here in N.C.

Carbon (charcoal) cab filters are well over $100 each just about anywhere you find them. Taking another look at your original post, you probably meant the foam pre-filter for the cab air filters when you mentioned carbon. I mistakenly thought you meant charcoal filters which are a whole different animal at 3x the money or more.

Our NAPA is kind of high so I buy the wix filters at Oreilly's. Example the hydraulic filter for $22 at Oreillys, compared to dealer $50. You can go to the WIX site and input your NH filter part number and it will give you the Wix number. I would rather do it this way then trust the guys behind the OR counter. Plus they cant get past the fact I'm asking about a tractor and not a car.

I try to stick with the original NH filters, but it's getting difficult for me to justify that loyalty when I get them home and look at them more closely and find that some of them are now made in China. Grrrrr....

Now that CaseIH and NH are basically the same company you'll probably be getting filters made in Mexico. My wife bought 2 oil filters for the IH 686 last Fall and I noticed the cellophane was loose and the paint was chipping off brand new filters, looked on the side and it was marked Made in Mexico. I still have the oil ones, may cut them apart when she changes the oil again and see how they compare to each other.

A lot of NAPA filters are WIX.

Many oem filters are WIX.

You just don't know these days, like many generics that come out of the same factory that makes the name brand stuff. Just different paint and labels or packaging.
