Has anyone ever installed the float control repair valve kit, if so I could use some help. My friend that just recently purchased the used 2002 PT 422 called Terry and told him the tractor won't stay in the float position, Terry sent him a kit to install on the valve. I told him I would help put it on. I was looking at my tractor, and I think this kit goes into the bottom of the valve body, the book leaves a lot to the imagination. Does the valve body need to be removed to install this kit, on can it be done on the tractor?

My problem was the opposite and the valve was stuck in the float position. When speaking with Terry, he said, that the valve would have to be removed to get the repair kit installed.
I got the valve to release but haven't used the float positon since then. I should probably order the kit and be ready to repair the valve. Not looking forward to removing all those fine hoses on it. Let us know how you make out.

If you can, take a very clear digital picture of everything before you disassemble. Might help in the re-assembly. Also, mark all connections before you disconnect them. Be sure to keep everything very clean. I can't imaging working on that valve without removing it.

I called Terry about this problem and he never mentioned a repair kit, hmm. He did say it was a fairly quick fix if you knew what you're doing and that the labor should only be about $25. He also said that the valve assembly had to be removed, which is the hard part. I think Mossroad should remove his valve assembly (in the name of science) and document it on his website. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif We'd really appreciate it. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I had to remove my valve assembly to have it tested, and it was no big deal. If you are going to try it yourself, it must be cleaned really good, and on a dust free table. Just mark the hoses. If you are not sure you can do it, take the valve to a hyd shop with the kit. Should only be about an 1/2 hour work, but ask for an estimate. It just might only need a good cleaning.

The ball on the top unscrews. Push the roll pin out, unbolt the valve, and it will drop out. It is heavy, so be careful.

My neighbor installed this kit last night, it took him 30 minutes from start to finish. He didn't have to remove the valve body, he took the pins out of the top where the lever hooks on then took the round cylinder off the bottom then the shaft slides right out, be carefull not to scratch the surface of the shaft. All of the float control kit is in the round cylinder on the bottom of the valve.
