Float Position??

   / Float Position?? #11
I just went out to my tractor and verified its operation of the laoder, which is an ML260-60, with a Sauer Danfoss 491B controller. The controller does not have a "float" indentation when the controller stick is pushed forward to lower the bucket. I pushed until I was concerned it might break and it never popped into another position. When I pull back on the stick to raise the bucket, I can see the controller piston (inside the rubber boot) being pushed down to become flush with the surrounding metal plate and when I pull more, the piston disappears into the plate and the engine groans (engine rpm falls) like it is under stress. The controller stick won't stay in this position on its own. I have to hold it there or it will spring back to neutral position. The empty bucket continues to raise, but much slower. When I have a heavy load in the bucket, like a load of dirt, and I pull back all the way into this second position, the engine will groan like it's under more stress and the bucket will lower from the weight of the dirt. It doesn't fall fast, but it does go down.

Something is most certainly not right here. Either something is plumbed wrong or maybe the handle kit is installed backwards. I am not sure if the latter is possible. I know you can do it on Prince valves. At any rate, I KNOW that valve has float in it.

I second that

I'll try to include some photos with this post. These photos are of my controller, underneath the rubber boot. I have 3 valves. The one to the rear of the tractor controlls the raise/lower of the bucket. The two forward valves control the bucket pivot to dump and "not dump".

Here's the controller as viewed from the right side of the tractor (the front of the tractor is to the right) with the controller in the "neutral" position (notice the rear valve and how high it protrudes out of its hole):

neutral.jpg

Here's the controller in the bucket lowering position (notice the rear valve and how high it protrudes out of its hole):

lower.jpg

Continuing on, here's the controller in the normal bucket-lifting position (notice the rear valve and how high it protrudes out of its hole):

raise.jpg

And finally, here's the controller in the extreme pulled back position that makes the engine rpm's drop, the empty bucket raises slower, and a loaded bucket will drop to the ground slowly in this position (notice the rear valve and high it protrudes out of the hole):

From these photos can you tell if my controller is mounted upside down or if something else appears wrong?

First of all, lets get the terminology correct. You have one directional valve with two control spools. One to control lift/lower and one to control curl/dump.

You have 2 hoses that go from one of the valve spool's work ports to the lift/lower cylinders and 2 hoses that go from the spool's work ports to the curl dump cylinders. I am sure the valve has power beyond so you would have another 3 hoses for inlet, PB and tank. Seven hose connections in total.

The joystick linkage is similar to many other manufcturer's. From my viewpoint it looks like the joystick linkage is not adjusted correctly. This is definitely a dealer warranty issue and you should get it corrected immediately.

IF you read my PM you will now know that the handle kit is installed wrong. I'll see if I can post some correct pics.

ML,
FLoat is designated around page 12 of the manual where is defines the loader control functions.

Thanks...please post your handle pictures so I can see what the proper setup should look like.

View from back looking forward... notice the anchor point on the left, rear. I apologize for the rust... is an old valve.
