My neighbor has an old JD rear blade that he can reverse and pull a pin so the blade floats over the area to be graded as he is moving forward. He uses it in uneven grading situations.

Do any of the rear blade suppliers (Midwest, FC, etc) have this feature in their product line for a 35HP tractor? Sorry about asking, but I can't tell from their literature.

Most blades offer the reverse angle positions. Normally, it is indicated in the number of index positions as in "5 forward and 5 reverse positions". Very usefull in final finishing.

I have a cheapie rear blade that I think I picked up from Northern Tools for $150 or so (including shipping). Even it can be reversed so it will "float". As mentioned, very handy for finishing. Don't get one that won't do that (unless you pay very, very little for it).

What pin does he pull for 'float'? Most tractors have the 3pt float as is. The blade wouldn't need anything special to allow the float. Do you mean it twists? We might not be understanding your qustion.

I agree you should get a blade that has multiple postions in forward & reverse.

You could also do the same by vertically angling the rear blade so it drags rather than cuts.
