Flooded gas tank in Z920A

The click sounds like you have moisture in the electrical system, probably in one of the safety switches. After re-installing the fuel tank turn the ignition on and jump across the solenoid at the starter and if it starts you know one of the safety switches is not allowing 12 volts to the starter. Also check and make sure all switches - levers are in their proper place for it to start.

If this is a EFI engine, water could also have entered the ECM or one of the ECM connectors.

Got the tank emptied and set it in the garage to dry. It was tough getting all the liquid out of that formed tank. A lot of nooks and crannies for it to run in before it finds the fill hole. I'll get it put back together, gassed up and then start checking the starting problem. I kind of wondered if it had gotten moisture in the electeical system. I don't know how it couldn't have with the rain we had.

Got the tank re-installed and put a couple of gallons of ethanol gas and Seafoam in it. Tried to start it; nothing. Ran through the diagnostic section of the Z920 manual but that all checked OK. The solenoid clicks when I turn the key on but it doesn't try to turn over or anything. It got dark on me so I came on in. I'll dig into it again in the morning. I found the service manual for the Kawi FX-730V 26 V-Twin and I going through it.

have you pulled the plugs? with the plugs out, can you turn the motor
by hand?
it isn't a fuel problem yet, so you need to figure out if you have power to the
starter. did you try jumping the starter as gator mentioned?

I finally got it running. I took the control panel off today and there was a lot of dirt up inside that cavity so I cleaned it all out then took each harness off its plug and sprayed electronics cleaner on both sides. Put it all back together and tried it. Nothing. So I got back down at the starter and put my meter (reading voltage) across the negative on the starter and across the back terminal on the solenoid.

(meter attached to "A" Z920 Starter&Solenoid.png and negative battery lead at top of starter.)

There was no voltage as I expected but when I hit the key, it turned over and started. It's running fine now.

So my question is, what did I do? I must've completed some circuit or something that jogged voltage to the solenoid so that it would crank.

Thanks guys...

Mike

That sounds like one of those problems that will only resurface when the culprit finally gives up the ghost and dies. Until then, just keep on trucking.
