A cyclist died after accidentally shooting himself on Thursday afternoon, police said.
Troy Earl Smith Jr., 25, was found lying on a street in St. Petersburg, Florida, with a gunshot wound to the chest. He later was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
After reviewing video from nearby businesses and talking to witnesses, detectives determined that Smith was riding his bike when the handgun he was carrying in his jacket pocket discharged.

That's my question...I pocket carry with an Uncle MIke's holster...see no way it could discharge...I carry nothing else in that pocket either.

I read 3 or more newspaper accounts of the event....all are terse and give no more information...we may never know.

There really isn't much in the article to even figure out how this could have happened...

Assuming the man wasn't "playing" with the gun, the trigger pull on revolvers and semi-autos (that have no external safety) are long and a bit stiff....just to prevent accidental or negligent discharges.

Like texasjohn, I use a holster (Mika's or Galco) when I pocket carry...covers the trigger. Also, of the two revolvers I carry (alternately), one has a shrouded hammer so it's DAO.
