Got it on the 16th, and yesterday was the first day I felt 100% again. More suckfull was that my septic outlet from the house failed the day after I came down with it.... Thought I was going to die digging it up. Had to change my clothes twice after sweating through them.

It was a wonderful Xmas.

I think we had it, but hard to tell exactly what it was without getting tested. But it was a full week of bleh and another 4-5 days before we were right again.

I think I just got it. Or something. I went to look at a job in a house yesterday morning full of little kids. They all seemed healthy, but later in the day, I started to feel a little off. This morning I'm not sure if I should go to work or just stay home and rest. I think I'm still good enough to get some work done and be productive, but my wife, the nurse, thinks I should rest with the hope it passes quickly.

The hospital where she works has been hit hard. The other two hospitals in town are also struggling with finding staff because so many of them have the flu. They keep saying this is as bad as they have ever seen and it might get a lot worse.

Have any of you gotten the shot? I read the shot only covers marginally as the flu has "re-strained" itself??!! Hope all get well.

I got the Shot in November but I heard they missed it this year.

Sorry to hear that Murph, I was in the hospital in October and they just couldn't wait to give me a flu shot, so as soon as the fever went down I got the shot sure in the knowledge I could go amongst the diseased masses in safety...

One of my sons is an EMT and a daughter is a nurse, so they both had it; miserable.

I haven't gotten it yet though I had a bad case of bronchitis not long ago, but I'm pretty much a hermit and don't go to town often, hope you get to feeling better soon.

I came down with the flu 12 years ago on Christmas morning with a house full of company. I have been getting the shots ever since and never got sick again except for an occasional kidney stone.

I've never had the flu and never had a shot. Knock on wood. :mur:

I just got the "old people" flu shot last week. But like Triple R, being a hermit limits the exposure,,,,,....not unless one can catch it from a Kubota.:D

I assume you mean the HD (high dose). My wife and I got ours on September 5 this year.

Yeah, that's it, Bird......I think they called it "enhanced". It was "ouchless" too.:)

Murph, I don't really know, but I've been told that the HD shot is just getting a double dose of the vaccine. Of course they charge more for it, and Medicare approves and pays it. In fact, this year Medicare paid $51.71 for that flu shot.

No shot- been 15 years since I had one for the flu. Until this year, I've been in the classroom. Always came down with what was popular. This time last year I was in the ER. Since I stopped working- I stay home and keep away from ill students. This is the first year I can remember not getting the flu or catching a cold. Sucks to get it, and to work like that. My sympathies to all of you. Get well fast!

After having my first kidney stone a couple of months ago, I think I'd rather have battled the flu for a few days. Absolutely the worst pain I've ever endured that lasted for about 12 straight hours. Can't even imagine dealing with those multiple times.

I think I just got it. Or something. I went to look at a job in a house yesterday morning full of little kids. They all seemed healthy, but later in the day, I started to feel a little off. From what I have seen, you can certainly help yourself with rest. Flu and colds are viruses, which run their course no matter what. But in many cases, they will later lead to a bacterial infection -- sinuses, ear, etc -- and that is stuff you can help to avoid by resting and taking it easy.

Worst cold I had in recent years had run its course after 4-5 days. I was feeling better, so I stuck with my plans to rent a trencher and lay some electrical and water lines to my dock. Well, by the end of that day of hard work, sweating, and heavy breathing, I had gotten worse again, and was even worse the next morning. Finally went to doc a couple days later and got diagnosed with sinus/ear infection, most likely because I overdid it while recovering from the original virus. So I have learned to not push my luck, as it can turn a 4-5 day cold into a 5-10 day combo cold/infection wallop.

By the way, people are normally symptom free for the first 3-4 days after catching a virus or flu, so many times you won't ever know someone else is sick and contagious as they will appear fine. That also suggests you probably didn't catch the cold from that house of kids, since you wouldn't feel symptoms that quick. When symptoms first appear, think back 3-4 days and that will probably point to the source.
