Fluid Film on excavator undercarriage

What do use LPS-3 for and what do you use Fluid film for?

I use Fluid film on items where I want a light duty colorless lubricant, and some temporary corrosion protection.
I use LPS-3 on items where I want some lubrication, don't care about visual appearance, and want a longer lasting coat of corrosion protection.

I've used Fluid film quite a bit over the past two years.
I like the idea that if I come back to the area, the grunge isn't going to be "that bad".

But..

Fluid film washes right off in any "automotive" application. Road spray takes it right off.
It's not much of a lubricant. Lanolin is all.....

It smells "ahh, err" different. I sort of like it, but then I don't.

I like it for things I might contact later, but it's not durable.

I use open chain lube for things that sit out, and I just want to spray them down with something.
I use a bit of Kel 132 because it's like LPS-3 and easier for me to purchase locally. Waxy.

I've been using Fluid Film on undersides of mower decks for a couple years now after reading on MyMowerForum about it. Some of the professional lawn service folks were saying that it stops rust and also inhibits grass from adhering to the deck. So I pressure washed and cleaned the deck of my push mower last spring and sprayed FF on it, let it set and dry a week and then gave it a go. It really helps. I still get a light amount of grass sticking around the bottom edge where the deck is stamped with an outward bead for stiffness, but I hardly get any grass at all sticking up in the air chamber areas. I've committed to myself that this fall I will pull the decks from my 2 garden tractors and pressure wash them and fluid film them for next years service. I hate doing the every 2 week deck cleaning on the tractors. Hopefully I get a similar effect as the push mowers and I can be lazy with regard to deck cleaning.
