I dont think your read the post very well. I have a friend who has done this to a car he bought new and it now has over 350,000 miles in 9 years with no engine problems what so ever. I bought another car back in May and it is due for a oil change. I was just curious if what my friend was doing was a common practice or what. From what I gather here on this site is that it was common practice 60 years ago but is not necessary with modern engines running modern oils and filters.

Oh I read your post just fine. And I still wouldn't buy a used car from someone that had been doing it.;) Just because his engine lasted doesn't mean it is a good thing to do....IMHO. Anyone else is free to do as they please of course:)

You can use Kero, diesel etc to flush an engine. What do you think Amsoil engine flush is, mostly kero...

It is not in there long enouth to do anythin but clean. I have used the above and more...You are fine.

The Amsoil product says to use about 10% of the crankcase capacity and the product itself is only 60-65% kerosene, if that is what it is. Thats a far cry from putting a whole quart or more in of kerosene or diesel, 20% or maybe more of the crankcase capacity.

diesel/kero is not in there long enought to harm anything. I have used a quart of diesel fuel and kero in cars from 3 to 5 qts without issues...It works nice.

Well I went ahead and put in a quart of diesel in the crank case and ran it for 5 minutes. Shut off and drained, changed the filter, then refilled with Valvoline 5W30 and a Fram Filter. I have driven it about 100 miles and all is ok. I did a google search and many say you will not see a difference until the 3 change and flush. Only time will tell but I got thinking about it and on some of the airplanes I fly we thin the oil out during shutdown with fuel to help with the restart. The fuel burns out and no ill effects so I feel confident it will do no harm.

Late to the game, but you should be ok doing 1 qt of diesel. You could probably even drain completely and fill with diesel and let it sit overnight then drain it in the moring. That should loosen up the gunk and get it to flush out.

Back in the stone ages that's what I used to do with a new to me used car. Would drive around to get it hot, then dump the oil and fill with kero. Let it sit in the crank case over night. Then dump it the next day and fill with "cheap oil" then run it around to get it hot and dump the oil and the filter. Then put on a new filter and fil with "good oil".

We don't live in the stone ages any more (even though my knuckles do still drag on the ground....) so it probably isn't needed. And, yes I used to also do the ATF trick for sticking lifters. Bought a used 1976 Genada with 302 that had ticking lifters. I dumped the oil and filled with ATF and let it idle for 30 minutes with that in there. New filter and oil and it was a quiet smooth engine from that day on.

Heck, My convertible got a case of sticking rings this year after a 4 year park and only had 15 in hg at idle and it was fluctuating. I dumped 2 cycle oil down the carb while fast reving it until it choked, coughed, smoked and stopped. Let it sit for an hour. Added 2 qts of 2 cycle to the fuel tank and it now has 18-19 in hg and no flutter. The vacuum gain has held steady for the past 1200 miles.
