Font Sizes?

I realize you're in the process of making changes, but since I'm taking off for the property in the morning, I thought I'd jump the gun and ask about the new display options.

At the moment, I have lost my font size adjustment that used to occur when I logged in to the board. On my Mac, the fonts are currently either "squinty" or downright unreadable, and I see no setting in my display options to compensate.

Is this what the style sheet, or "skin" stuff is going to take care of?

Yes, the forum is now completely css-based (cascading style sheet). While in making that change we lost the font size adjustment option, we'll be adding some additional style sheets for you to select. Basically, there are now unlimited possibilities for having a custom look to the forum based on your preferences. Yes, we will be adding a small, medium, and large font size sheet in the style you currently see (we use medium sized fonts standard... not sure why they would display smaller than 10pt) and also consider different color options. Since everything is now controlled by a set of css files, there is no limit to the options. Of course, we'll keep it within reason and try to keep it logical. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

I'm quite familiar with css, and that's a totally way cool way to go. Have any other message boards gotten that sophisticated?

For the most part, I'm seeing what is probably 10pt, but there's a few fields that are smaller (see attached).

I'm sure you know all this, but when it comes to HTML and web browsers, the rendering of text doesn't necessarily mean 10pt will be displayed as a true 10pt for every platform. It's that old 72 dpi for Mac vs 96 dpi for PC's issue.

I know you guys are light years ahead of me on this stuff, so I'm just gonna sit back and take notes on how you solve these problems. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

I was tinkering with the file upload utility and broke it right before leaving the office. /w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif Thing is I didn't know it until I remembered that I didn't test it. As you see I made a new directory for 2001 files, and it doesn't work. /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif I'm pretty sure I know what's wrong, so I'll get to it tomorrow. Might just be permissions set wrong, so the file you uploaded might work then. If now, I'll have to ask for it again once the file uploads work again.

Yes, the mac vs PC issue is there, but most of our users are PC-based. I'll look at that file if I can and see what might be the problem. I guess if all else fails you can use the larger font css on your mac, or something. Thanks for the feedback...

All joking aside, this site is probably the first I've seen that has made provisions for both platforms.

My fears are dissuaded, and I will eagerly jump on those style sheet options as soon as they become available.

Ahh, I see... looks like everything is one size down. If it were just a few things it could be a missed /font tag in our code somewhere, but I am pretty sure I closed everything off, and it looks like it is everything scaled down. The larger font style sheet should correct that.
