Profit, I don't think so. I would imagine that JD has a large overhead cost in producing their equipment. Just like the auto industry. Most of the cost of manufacturing goes into salaries and benefits. And it doesn't matter if it is rank and file or management. Those costs are built into the pricing structure.

Just the way things are.... sad but true.

I hope they are still making a profit, otherwise, why bother? Next time you think tractor prices are high, go to your nearest auto dealer and check their prices. Autos have a much, much higher production rate, obviously because of the demand. Profit on autos far exceeds that of tractors, and yet, even at that, no guns at no ones head forcing the sale of either, GO Capitalism, Rat...

I hope John Deere is making a profit. If they are not, they won,t be around next year. I would imagine that everyone out there is trying to make some kind of profit. My theory is that it cost a little extra to join the John Deere Club, but once you are a member the dues aren,t to bad. They are heavy duty, reliable, and spend most of their time on the job, not in the shop

I have had a few problems with my JD 4400,would I go to another brand of tractor? Nope, like you say a little more expensive,but you have a great product,backed by a great company and all of these mergers going on,I figure John Deere would be the last company to close the doors.
