This is a pic that was taken today when i went down to my buddy Norm's to fix my "better halfs exhaust " and he was in the middle of the second phase of tigging 6.... 12-14' old oil tanks with the end's cut off into a 90' drainage pipe for his new circle track!!!! and a few pics too boot! the rigging ...carrying and his "BEYOND THE THUNDERDOME PORTABLE ALL WHEEL 6 WHEEL DRIVE CRANE WITH 4 TON FRONT COUNTERWEIGHT CRANE CARRYING LOAD AND ALL!!

I think the figure -8 is a great knot. Of note, it is pretty universal throughout fire fighter training. You can go to any fire dept, at 3pm in the sun or 3am in the sleet, and be able to work together with common knot knowledge. Most Dept's use the ISTFA books, which have a decent ropes chapter.

The sqaure knot is over rated I think. It can come undone, or jam, too easily. The Becket bend is nicer. For two ropes, there is always the figure-8 follow through(same size).

About those web pages... I sure would like to know how they did that animation /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

One other thing, for learning knots. For our Cub Scout Den, I took lengths of cord, and dyed 1/2 of it orange. It is easier to learn the knots when you can see the working end and running end very clearly.

And here's the look up the mudrun with the 175,000 gal gravity feed water tank!!!...I have seen even the baddest of bad 4x4 trucks jist wallow in the crud /grit and grime and even after the 2nd day it get's even worse and not even b able to make it out!!!
