Tiller ? for County Line/King Kutter Owners

The KKII tillers used to be shipped dry. Therefore, the oil leaking is probably just the residue left in the gearbox. I had to add oil to my side gearbox and the main gearbox as well as grease all fittings and adjust the slip clutch when I got mine home and before first use. The second year I used it, I noticed seeping oil from the gearbox cover. I tightened it down a bit and the leaking went away. I'm not sure why, but several people have reported seeping leaks around the side gearbox cover on KKII tillers. I'd expect something similar on the Countyline tillers too. Make your best deal. Ken Sweet's Hawkline offer seems to be a good deal too.

Easy fix is to remove the side plate, degrease the surfaces and bolt holes with brake cleaner, use RTV on both sides of the gasket and loctite blue on the bolts. Torque to spec or until the gasket just starts to bulge a wee bit. Should be good to go for a long time.

Yep, that's the procedure I would use to repair the gear case leak or not use a gasket and just use a good RTV sealant. I wouldn't be too surprised if the oil seeps out around the bolt threads. I've always had good luck with RTV sealant and Loctite if the surfaces are clear of old gasket material and oil free.

If you do take it apart. Check the gasket material. Some I've come across from factory are junk. We use blue Garlock a work and it's pretty well bullet proof.
Silicone one side then Copperkote the other. You will always be able to take that combo apart without damage to the gasket.
