3550 Fard Backhoe and a 1948 Farmall Cub,
I had a stupid stupid accident today. I was blowing off some steam today plowing my rented feild and had my old Ithaca 12 gauge shotgun. I was expecting to get to shoot a Coyote or get a shot off on the ground hog thats been eating my bean plants. I got home and was getting off the tractor and I slipped backwards. stupid me never let go of the gun and I hit the barrel on the back of my service truck I was parked near and the stock hit the ground. I busted the stock but almost cried when I saw the the barrel bent down slightly. THis was my dad s old gun and Im truly sick about it. I dont know of a good shop around here. to take it to. Its an old Itaca Deere Slayer. From the end of the fore arm to te tip of the barrel there about 3/16ths of an inch of bend. Its a shrp bend to. I dont know what to do I love this old gun dad gave it to me when I was 17.

I bet that can be straightened.

You need a good smith who will spend some time on it.

I have an Ithaca Deerslayer II. I bought it new about 8 years ago. These guns are true jewels. The Deerslayer II's have the barrel pinned to the action. They still make Deerslayers. Call these folks. The finest bunch of people I have ever talked to. Home of The Ithaca Gun Company

THanks guys I feel better now. I still cant believe I did this, Im still gettin gravel out of my hair and back. Found a bolt in the step broke on the tractors frame is what dumped me. Im calling Ithaca first thing in Monday morning to see is they can rework it. IF dad sees it he ll be crushed we havent gotten along lately.

I don't know a person who hasn't made a dumb mistake that they haven't kicked themselves over in their life. You had an accident, nothing intentional about it.

From the sounds of your mishap, sounds like it could of even turned out worse if the gun would of went off. No one was hurt, and you and your dad are still around to be with each other. I hope your dad realizes that, and don't beat yourself up too much over it.

Sounds like pretty serious damage, is that the slug barrel?

I've got 2 Deerslayers, one I got from a police auction, it was their riot gun, they like that pump fire action for tactical use.

The other is a hunting gun with the nice field scene on the receiver. I had 2 barrels for this one, a slug barrel and an adjustable choke barrel. I say had cause I can't seem to find the choke barrel

Worst case, you'll have to get another barrel. May be cheaper than trying to repair that one.

Good Luck, JB.

Back in the day I bought a new Remington Nylon 66 .22. When I tried it out, it shot nice groups, but I could not get it on target even with maximum windage adjustment. Now, on this rifle the barrel is covered so you can't tell if the barrel is straight without taking it apart which is a no-no with the Nylon 66. So, I sent the rifle to Remington. They said the barrel was bent. They replaced at no charge and we have lived happily ever after.

I have alway sent my guns back to the manufacturer for repair.

Pump fire is handy in alot of varmit cases . It was a hard lick with 250 pounds of clumsy falling onto it.

If the barrel is kinked I doubt it can safely be repaired. I'd get a new barrel for it. Try Gunsamerica.com or gunbroker.com. You can order barrels online or through the mail without involving an FFL.
