Re the book "House", I live in central Mass. and frequently ride by the actual house that the book was based on. Its in a nice, hilly section of Amherst w/ a great view. As to book favorites...if you like police type mysteries you can't go wrong w/ Michael Connolly or James Lee Burke.

OP here...I always wondered what the actual house looked like but was afraid if I did see it the book would not have the impact it did. Wonder what it is worth today, they charged the owners $146,000 to build it 25 years ago. Mystery writers, oh boy..

John Sandford
Jeffery Deaver
Dennis Lehane
Harlen Coben
Ridley Pearson

Agree with you on Connelly, his Harry Bosch character is one of my favorite in crime fiction.

Dan, I know exactly what you mean about us older folks being resistant to technology....today I just unpacked and installed a new Asus 24 inch LED monitor for my $2500 home built gaming computer, I printed off fifty 4X6 photos from a memory card, I refuse to replace my near 3 year old Blackberry 8330 because it still works perfectly, but I REFUSE to have anything to do with those E-readers. I am only 60...why am I so resistant to new technology.....

Because that danged analog technology, aka The Book, has worked so darned well for centuries! :D A book don't need not stinking power, last danged near forever if cared for, never needs new batteries and you can drop it over and over again without harm.

OTH....:D

We had a vacation a month or so ago. I took a book I had just started and figured I would only get a few minutes to read. We had some bad weather, which was actually good, since it forced us to slow down quite a bit, and I had enough time to read the book. Which was good.

But it was bad too since I finished the book and we had a couple more days of vacation. If I had had an eReader I could have just gotten a few more books with a push of a button or two.

Having books on the smart phone is really nice too. If you get stuck somewhere with nothing to do you can pull up a book. The small screen is not as bad to use as I had thought. I would rather have a larger screen, thus I ordered a Kindle, but the small screen does work. And work well since you can enlarge the text.

Later,
Dan

Re the "House" I'll try to remember to bring my camera one of these days and snap a picture. The house itself is not very dramatic and is actually starting to look a little worn. Totally agree on the Harry Bosch character, my personal favorite. Am also very partial to Lehane and the Sanford series as well. Have you tried James Lee Burke? Very verbose but a heck of a writer and you come to emphathize w/ his main character as is the case w/ Harry.

Pay no attention to the rantings of Jmurray01, he was the self-proclaimed "prince" of another forum, which by courtesy shall remain nameless. Here on TBN, he is a tiny frog in a huge pond, and he will wait until the ponds in Hades freeze over before he attains any stature here.
