Since I installed Pat's Easy Change, I've been concerned about adequate implement PTO shaft overlap. So far, no problems, but I am concerned.
So, I got a PTO extender (4", if that). The holes through the extender do not match up with the groove in the tractor's PTO shaft. Appears to be about an inch shy (give or take a bit).
So, have any of you drilled the tractor's PTO (I'd really hate to do that!) for a roll pin installation? Or, what other options have I? The sleeve of the extender (female end) isn't long enough to reach the groove in the tractor's PTO.

Thanks in advance!

What about threading the adaptor hole on one side and putting a set screw in it. It shouldn't be taking that much axial thrust. Your shafts ought to have low sliding friction. I'd be more concerned about the change in position of the front Cardan joint relative to the hitch pin location. If you have a high turn angle, an offset tongue, and the pto shaft is not horizontal, there will be a non-cv condition created. Probably no big deal, but if this was a high rpm high load implement, she will vibrate.

This might be tricky, but buy a second PTO extender, cut off the splined female end and weld it to your original PTO extender with the splines aligned. This should give you enough depth inside the modified PTO extender to reach the factory groove in the tractor's 540 shaft. The alignment part is going to be the most difficult, so that it won't bind up on the tractor's shaft.

Roy, I thought of something cheaper that might work. Purchased a Heavy-duty, U-bolt style muffler clamp that fit the outside diameter of your 540 PTO. Buy the style that uses channel iron with two holes on one part and say a 3/8" U-bolt material as the clamp. First, slide on new U-bolt clamp on to tractor's PTO shaft and snug down 3/8" U-bolt onto your PTO groove.
(Make sure the "channel iron" part of the clamp is NOT in the groove, but up on the splines.)
Second, slide on your PTO extender, and with any luck it will butt up to the channel iron part of the clamp and you can weld the extender to the channel iron part of the heavy-duty muffler clamp. Because you kept the "channel iron" out of the groove, you should be able to remove the unit by just remove the U-bolt. The picture I have in my head, this should work. Note: I thought I have seen old style PTO extenders/adapters that had two splits 180 degrees across from each other thru the spline area and two bolts were used to clamp the spline area down tightly onto the tractor's PTO. I think my Dad's 1937 JD "B" has an adapter like this. It was used to run a newer hay bale elevator.

I had a problem similar to yours with my speeco quick hitch and a rhino finish mower. TSC can order a 540 pto extender which has a slip collar on the extension instead of the adapter with the pin hole. TSC has the 1000 pto extension in stock but the 540 version can be ordered. The 540 version looks the same but will not be listed on the web site or a normally stocked item. I ordered mine last year. The price is certainly higher and I believe around $40. I have noticed that most newer tractor and implements that have pto shaft stubs, don't have hole in the shaft anymore.

I use an extender on my 5030 for a short shaft that came with my snowblower.

It is the "Quick Release Extender" made by Double HH, part number 23556, illustrated by the third photo from the left here: Double HH Quality Products - Don't Compromise... Demand Double HH

It operates by pulling back the lock collar and snapping onto your current pto shaft. No bolts needed. Good quality and works quick and easy.

Same thing happen to me when I put the Pat痴 Easy Change on my Ford 3910 tractor. Made the lift arms four inches longer. My bush hog PTO was okay, but my tiller PTO was not. So I went to the local New Holland dealer and they had a PTO extender that was the correct length, about four inches. It was the slip collar type/quick release type and it was cheaper that TSC. They had one, but it was priced high. Also I had to get a longer top link, the Ford factory top link for my Ford 3910 was to short for all of my equipment (bush hog, tiller, box blade, scrape blade) when I put on the Easy Change. The only thing that work was the boom pole. But it was worth the pain, I like the Easy Change system.

I recently purchased a 2007 B7610 second hand:D. On it came a 6 spline PTO shaft extension with a slip collar that is spring loaded. Can somebody please tell me how to remove this extension? When I pull the collar back and pull on the end of the spline it will not come off, it is almost like there is something else holding it on. There are no roll pins. Is it possible there there is another type of pin that I can not see holding it on? The closest one that I can find that it looks like is the following link:(not sure why the hyperlink is not working)

It is identical to the one in the thread below with the Double H link. I woould appreciate someones help.

A few too many http's :D

FarmEx Inc. although I couldn't find the "extender" you describe.

In my experience, I've never had any one thing attached long enough to be totally "frozen" on, but even then as a result of, dirt, rust, seizing, close tolerances, galling, etc. there are times when a PTO coupling may indeed need lots of persuasion to come off. Assuming this "extender" has been on for a while, it could very well be difficult.

I would try to be certain the detents were fully retracted/released,apply lots of solvent like WD40 let it soak in for a while, then if you can find some place to hook on, use something like a slide hammer to see if you can get it started.

Good Luck

Sherweld, it appears that there is a snap ring towards the factory PTO on the extender, do you know if this is something that is supposed to be removed prior to removing extender?
