Re: For those of you with \"Swisher\" mowers

I pull a 60" Swisher behind a 350 Rancher. I mow about 3 acres and my only real complaint is the 5MPH that they recommend for your mowing speed. Steve

Re: For those of you with \"Swisher\" mowers

Thanks guys, sounds like the Swisher can do a good job if used correctly.I had heard some negative things about them (from a competitor) but then I shouldnt be suprised. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif So it sounds like you that own a Swisher would buy one again? Any do you think they would hold up well to near constant use in the summer? The grass grows mighty quick here (California) Thanks,Mark.

Re: For those of you with \"Swisher\" mowers

I have rolled mine out about once a week for the last 4 summers. It has held up very well.

Re: For those of you with \"Swisher\" mowers

I pull 2 Acre-Ease C60-K behind my New Holland TC33 Boomer with a 60in mid mount mower. I have seen Swishers, if you saw the Acre-Ease and Swisher side by side you'd see why the Swisher costs less. I mow 8-10 acres in 2 hours. In 5 years I have spent ten bucks on repairs besides lubrication, and banged them pretty hard into trees and rocks. Thay are built on the same toughness level as my tractor , the swisher is built for milder homeowner use..

Re: For those of you with \"Swisher\" mowers

I had the 60" mower for about 4 years, I replaced bearings about once a year, some years two times. I was mowing about 6 acres.

Re: For those of you with \"Swisher\" mowers

I owned a swisher 60" finish, and towed it behind a trx300
it was the most high maintanence piece of...... mower I have owned. It broke constantly, I scrapped it out, pulled the engine, and made a atv yard trailer out of the frame, the deck is in the junkyard

man I hated that mower, but I really like the trailer

Re: For those of you with \"Swisher\" mowers

I recently purchased the Acrease rough cut and finally got a chance to use it this past weekend. The unit seems to be one heck of a quality built mower. It was more expensive than the Swisher, but then again there is no real comparison between the two. I also need my equipment to work when I have the opportunity to work.

The mower was actually purchased to help in mowing tasks in areas that are too steep or too tight for my tractor and RC.

Between my Dad and me, we put about 8 hours on the mower with no problems at all. Grass and weeds were 2-3ft tall. Mowing speed and setup of the unique style hitch took a little while to get used to, but other than that the 20hp Kohler did not even grunt one time. The finish cut depends on the speed at which the mower is pulled, as well as, the height and density of the growth being cut.

A little more practice on our part and this unit will be a real asset and time saver. It will also save me from having to use reverse so often on my TN75

The only downside for some might be the overall size relating to transport of this machine. I have a trailer with a 12ft deck and I could not get both ATV and mower on the trailer. I used the traler to haul the mower and my truck to haul the ATV - so no real big deal for me. The mower is appx. 9ft long, and I have to admit I was surprised at the size when it was initially delivered to my house.

The mower also weighs over 500lbs, and I got stuck one time on a 15-20 degree vertical climb because I did not have enough momentum going into the climb.

I use a 660 Yamaha Grizzly to pull the mower.

Sorry - No time for pictures this past weekend as I had to beat the threat of rain - next time out I will take pics and post.

Re: For those of you with "Swisher" mowers

I've had my swisher 60 finish mower for about 12 hours of use. I used it five times, it broke four. Now the belt is off. I am going to try to return it!!!

Re: For those of you with "Swisher" mowers

I bought a new Swisher Trailcut 44 about 6 years ago to maintain a couple of acres of overgrown pasture. Almost every time I use it it tears up the drive belt. Single belt drive is not nearly heavy enough. And it is a royal pain to change the belt. I haven't used it for several years now. Gotta get rid of it I guess. I would not recommend it. But maybe the new ones are better, I don't know.
