There was also a more positive general attitude...The baby boom was on...the space race was on etc...
A lot of the technology we have today was just being talked about back then... World fairs and expos were running amok demonstrating how they could make science fiction a reality...

... Today you can't even smoke out in the street without someone complaining about second hand smoke.

I gave up the **** years ago and switched to a pipe... nowadays, people (quite a few 'non-smokers') come up to me just to smell the smoke, saying, "My father (or grandfather) smoked a pipe. I love the smell!"

Honestly, I've never had a 'public' complaint... although I do 'take myself away' from the general population when I do have a pipe as I consider myself a conscientious smoker.

So many people drank and then smoked in bed and fell asleep. Though the fast way cigarettes can kill you might be better than the slow.
As far as kids being able to go out and play, it’s not that it was safer then, it wasn’t, it’s just that people weren’t as afraid.

This is so true, fear has been promoted by our government to keep the masses under control.
