A lot depends on how good the person is giving you the shot. Straight in, and straight out is the way to do it properly. however, sometimes you get a tech in a hurry and they end up pulling the needle out at an angle different from the way it went in. What happens then is the tip of the needle is slicing through the muscle tissue and causing a laceration (cut) on the inside. Of course the allergen seeps right into that area and you have instant pain and inflammation, not to mention the development of some scar tissue.
