For you garbage collectors out there...

That's a live oak tree and they have green leaves year round. I have another one in the back yard about the same size. They do produce some very small acorns, and while they have those small green leaves year round, they also shed leaves year round. Then in early summer, they also produce, and shed, a "bloom" (I'm not sure what you'd call it) and the one in the back yard is a bit too close to the house, so it's a constant problem to keep the mess out of the rain gutter.

I also have the 4 Bradford Pear trees in the back yard and they've got pretty good buds already but no flowers or leaves yet.

I've got to prune my bradford pear pretty soon here, before buds pop out. 50s all week predicted.

I don't understand why anyone would be upset at someone going through their garbage put at the street. Is it that you'd feel like an idiot if they found something worth money that you were throwing out? If anyone wants finds a scrap place that takes dirty diapers please let me know! :) That's 3/4 of my trash.

I gave up on trash collection when the price reached $23/month. I now save $hundreds every year by paying $4 a trip to the landfill on my way to work. Once I'm done with diapers, I figure I'll be paying about $26/year!

ya know a friend of mine and her husband own a small rural trash collection company...

and we talked about it a couple of times...

he has found needles, and drug stuff in the garbage-- (ripped or ripping bags)
Stuff poking out, and some really dangerous stuff...

They mentioned one time getting a fine for half full gallon paint cans..so I can see the going thru side... But I can also see the I want it gone don't mess with it side...

That is why I make a trash run myself...

Where I live they actually fine people for sorting thru trash at the landfill..

and I have seen some people at the landfill --" hey man, I'll take that, no need to throw that away"....

I guess this is where I would say "to each his own"...

You are lucky. I don't have a landfill to go to. I would much prefer going on my own schedule than having to put out the garbage for pickup.

Alot of trash talk here :)

We have the new barrels that are dumped by truck, I love them, many people protested the change over, don't know why, they're like a personel dumpster, I load the heck out of that thing.
Only thing I don't like about residential junk pickers is they often leave a mess as they dig for whatever they are looking for.

I have to admit I'm a dumpster diver, but only at commercial industrial sites, you would be surprised what some companies throw away, some is so valuable they have to lock the dumpsters.

Worked at Stanley works and filled 5 gallon pails with tape measures and other hand tools, I still have boxes of hardware and hinges.
When Loctite first came out, the company was right in town, they would throw away cases full of those little tubes cause the printing wasn't right. One guy brought enough to school to give out to every boy in 6th grade. Lots of kids at the nurses office with fingers stuck together

Back in the day we had 1 garbage day a year called Non-combustible, basically a chance for home owners to do thoro clean outs, and put anything to the curb. It was as popular as Halloween, every kid in the neighborhood would make the rounds. Running from pile to pile to get the best pickens, then carrying all this junk home.

The landfill we run is private industrial, Dad started it for Belmont homes and they used Makita drills I bet we had 500 Makita cordless drills around here. They would get glue on one or something happen to it and it was cheaper to chunk it thant to repair it. They did repair a few of them but when they were makeing 15 trailers a day it was a madhouse. Air nailers, drills saws, plywood, screws bolts all sorts of goodies. Now since a Motor coach builder owns us we get a different rubbish now. They waste less but its usually better more high tech materials. We re not supposed to scavenge but we are allowed to because we have to monitor or remove any unauthorized materials. We cant take motors, or electronics so when they come they get sorted out. Today found a 2 gallo nbucket full of 4 inch long self drilling screws.

You guys had that too? When I was a kid, we had "big trash day" once per year. My friends and I would go around and find all kinds of neat things. I once pushed a 25" console TV three blocks back to my house and it worked perfectly. The most dissapointing find was when I thought I had found a good looking Sony VCR. I got it home and my mom informed me that it was a Betamax player. By the time I got into high school it had become too popular. Out-of-towners would come around with trailers grabbing all the good stuff and spoiling it for the kids. I doubt kids today would be interested in looking through garbage, and I'm only 29!

Ours is the exact opposite. We pay $11 per month to WM for a once-a-week pickup of just about as much as many bags as we can put out. Our dump, owned by WM, is a joke. It costs $45 per ton to dump but they have a $25 minimum charge. Miss your trash day and take one bag of trash to the dump? $25 charge.

Interesting... It's a WM landfill that I drop off to. It's $5 for up to 210gallons of trash, but I can buy a card for $40 for 10 visits.

This must be one of those regional differences, just like so many other things on this forum.
