Think about a lean-to on the barn to store it in and be able to use it there. Then it is always set up and level ready to be used. Jon

That is one of my listed projects to build with the wood. I was going to purchase the materials from the supply house but now I can produce most of the lumber necessary.
I will still store the saw head in the barn. It only takes a few minutes to hook a chain to it and either pick it up with the loader or mini ex and move it inside. Doesn't take up much space.

Probably the reason you got no bids from the loggers is that storm damage can be very dangerous. Be Carefull. I got hurt a couple years ago doing this, yet I've never been hurt falling. I am not a pro, just grew up in timber country.

Exactly my concerns and why I tried to farm the work out to a pro.

Roofing for 30 yrs killed my knees already. Haha. But it's not fun tripping over all the slash and underbrush that's for sure.

I've been looking for a splitter to add to the arsenal. After reading many posts by you guys who split wood all year long, I was able to pick up this lighty used ( owner said 20-25hrs- 10 cords of wood) 2016 wallenstein wx520, Honda gx160 engine 20 ton splitter with the slip on 4 way split for about a grand below new. I've heard nothing but accolades from you wood splitters on the forum so I jumped in. Enough already, here are the pics. image-2008497911.jpg image-3573755118.jpg image-1154898125.jpg image-2605625733.jpg

We have those here but I mill them up into beams and boards. I split the slash and limbs, 6-8" stuff. The split wood is only for outside campfire use. Mostly hemlock and pine. The 60 acre red and white oak stand gets done by the pros every 15 yrs or so.

This one in 60" at the base

The log in the background is 40" all the way.
